Yet don't kiters still hold the record for ALL sail powered craft at like....55+ knots?
If we can go 48+ knots in 38 knots of wind.....then wtf!?!? Find a windier place and go fast enough that kiters can't touch us!

Why the big/high/airborne wake? Isn't that logical and technical indication of wasted energy which, if harnessed or eliminated, would allow or actually produce lower drag and/or higher speed? He's the world's best, yet it takes (i.e., robs) energy to throw that much mass that high.

It is an unavoidable consequence of bearing off on the fastest point of sail. You should see the rooster tail the speed-record kiters throw off: it looks like drag-racing boat. And yet.....their fastest guy is still faster than our fastest over-weight Frenchman.

I think Mike has got a point here. Something about the way the water releases from the board, or the way the tail/trim of the board is kicking up that water should point to a place for improvement.

Yes. We are all sailors, whether on sailing, windsurfing, or kiting. Spinnakers are often referred to as kites too. Laughing

Having said that, that windsurfer is hauling! Props on the new record!

It looks like a NP racing EVO V sail. They state that their 5 and 5.4 are built for GPS speed.

Wait, I read somewhere that the powers-that-be declared kiteboards to NOT be sailing craft, because the "sail" is attached to the person, not the board, and they were going to have to have their own records, not compete with windsurfers.

Can anyone confirm or refute this? I'm not positive.
