When I checked on Nov 1st, the road into East Beach State Park was covered by 2 feet of beach sand. No idea the extent of damage.
Multiple inquires to state agencies have failed (either responsibility is denied or they don't answer the phone).
Anyone been on-site who can provide an update??

MISQUAMICUT, EAST BEACH, AND CHARLESTOWN BREACHWAY CAMPGROUND CLOSED TO PUBLIC ACCESS DUE TO IMPACTS FROM HURRICANE SANDY
The Department of Environmental Management announces that effective immediately, Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly, East Beach State Beach in Charlestown, and the Charlestown Breachway Campground are closed due to public safety concerns. The closures will remain in effect until further notice.
The Department has been advised to close these facilities because the damages caused to buildings and structures at these sites may represent a public safety threat. In addition to structural damages caused by the hurricane, widespread erosion has occurred, access points leading to the facilities have been washed away, and parking lots are full of storm-related debris.
Access to the facilities will be allowed once public safety concerns have been addressed and the areas are deemed safe for public use.

They started clearing the sand off the road yesterday (I stopped to check it out the day before and it was still completely covered) and finished the majority of it. I say majority because the beginning is clear and the end is clear too but unfortunately there is still a small but rather deep section in the middle that doesn't look too easy to get through. A guy with 4-wheel drive had no problem but I chose to walk in instead as I have a car.

Hey ce3141592654,
Did you make it into the East Beach parking lot? What is the extent of Sandy related damage/disruption?

Yeah, I was able to get into the parking lot but the road going in was deep in a few spots. That was this past Thursday so I'm sure it is finished by now or at least almost finished as it looked like they were making quick work of removing the sand.

Access to East Beach State Park has been restored!
Although the parking lot surface is now sand instead of pavement, there are no observable effects from Sandy on the rigging area or Ningret Pond. Ocean side of East Beach including the dunes are in pretty good shape compared to other RI coastal beaches.

the prior parking lot was gravel not pavement, this surface looks more forgiving than that. thanks for the update.
