So NW30, your solution to our debt problem is voting for Mitt Romney, the guy who is promising to cut income taxes by 20%? Although he claims the tax reduction would be revenue neutral, he conveniently omits how he would change current deductions to achieve that end. And, even if he was able to achieve a outcome that was revenue neutral, that's would do nothing to reduce our deficit, much less our debt.

Maybe the fact that Romney's tax plan doesn't add up hasn't dawned on you yet.

Maybe you never got it, it's not new, more people paying less taxes will out number (in terms of revenue to the government coffers) dollars received, than fewer paying more.
Just ask Walmart, they figured it out decades ago.
It's all about volume.

NW, watch this quick video. You'll like it -- it's {GASP!} Fox.

Please listen carefully at around 1:55.

Hey NW30, why don't you explain why the Bush Tax Cuts didn't result in more revenue, and why it ultimately exploded our debt. Maybe you can blame that on the fact that the Bush/Cheney Administration decided not to pay for the wars they started, or the fact that they promoted Medicare Part D without funding it, but in the end you can't prove that less taxation produced more revenue overall. Even if you could, it's obviously that it wasn't enough. Where was the fiscal responsibility from Republicans?

I don't know where you when to school, but it's my view that stuff has got to add up. Romney didn't really clarify how he's going to grow both jobs and the economy. He's just pitching BS for those willing to eat it up. Just run down the list on practically everything, and Romney has offered virtually nothing that adds up.

In my book, airhead ideas don't sell and get real results. Time for Republicans to get serious.

NW--I can tell from this posting that you are one of those people who pays attention to Fox--as you get stupider, and stupider, and stupider....

I can also tell that you didn't really take Econ 101--or maybe you just failed it. What a laugh!

Highhlights of “The Air Force's Flight to Weakness” from the WSJ
By JACK DAVID AND MICHAEL DUNN
America's offensive and defensive capabilities have weakened over the past 20 years compared with those of its adversaries and potential adversaries ... this might soon begin endangering missions essential to U.S. national security … Russian and Chinese aircraft, flown by Indian pilots in exercises, have already bested the U.S. Air Force's fourth-generation F-15s and F-16s. Both Russia and China have developed fifth-generation fighters similar to the Air Force's F-22 and F-35 … yet the Obama administration terminated or delayed seven aircraft production lines, including those of the F-22 fighter jet, the C-17 transport airplane, the replacement search-and-rescue helicopter, and a new bomber …The production lines and the people who man them will be gone. …

meanwhile Moscow and Beijing say they intend to produce those aircraft in numbers far greater than does the U.S., and they have announced plans to sell them to other countries … "sequestration" cuts will cut millions of jobs according to a study from George Mason University.
[Success in modern warfare depends on air superiority.] Our AF has performed so well because the American people nourished it with decades of sustained and consistent investment. Yet USAF planes average 25 years old with many combat aircraft > 50 years old and already operating decades beyond their design lifetimes ... No U.S. soldier has been killed by enemy air power since 1953. For six decades the Air Force has been able to deny operational air space to adversaries, so U.S. ground forces have operated with little fear of enemy aircraft attacking their positions. The AF also holds at risk any actual or potential enemy target anywhere, protects the ground forces of friends and allies, protects the U.S. from a nuclear attack, developed and provides GPS, gathers intelligence remotely, defends against cyberattacks, airlifts troops and humanitarian aid anywhere in the world, and deters potential adversaries. [Panetta has gone on record stating that already-approved sequestration cuts in these and other military capabilities will be disastrous, yet the left just voted to implement them beginning Jan 1, 2013.]

Mr. David, a senior fellow of the Hudson Institute, was a deputy assistant secretary of defense in the George W. Bush administration. Mr. Dunn, a former president and CEO of the Air Force Association, is a retired Air Force lieutenant general.

Maybe Iso doesn't realize that the sequestered cuts and expiration of the tax cuts force the Republicans to come to the table. But then subtlety is often lost on reactionaries.

The things I saw were that the mainstream media polls were amazingly accurate.
And the fairy tale Drudge/Talk/Fox world denied them within hours and faked up their own.
The results depended on the turnout. Most Americans are still centrist and the Dems seem to represent them. The GOP groups depicted on Fox were dominated by angry old white men in suits.
Msnbc has become worse than Fox with guys like Sharpton who should be in jail.
A guy named Singer at the NYT said Romney had no chance about two weeks ago. This nonpartisan math guy called it exactly in the Electoral, which he felt was all that mattered.
The most important thing I saw was that the GOP had this won on the weak economy six months ago. The parade of ass clowns at the Primary which ignored Huntsman was the first sign of how impoverished of talent Mr Bushs remnants in Congress have become.
They were the finest stars of the GOP and their names are the Fox stars of today's GOP. Trump, Bachman, Cain,Santorum,Palin......
Do they really represent any of the posters out here.?
The libs here insult you by trumpeting your love of these clowns.
Do they actually represent you? Or would you be conservatives who are NOT Republican if you really thought it over, like me and my friends.
If more thoughtful people dump this party we can drive out the losers who now have placed themselves in charge.
You need not change your beliefs unless tossing off theses ass$&@es encourages you to swap Drudge for Factcheck.

Mayo Clinic Makes Medicare, Medicaid Cuts
The Arizona Mayo Clinic has opted out of Medicare, citing reimbursements = just 50% of Mayo's primary care costs. Only Medicare primary care will continue, and only if patients pay cash.

Excerpts:

“The Mayo Clinic has essentially been forced to make this tough decision because top-down, government-run health care does not work,” Ridenour said. “Under Medicare, government sets the rates it will pay providers for services. It often does so below market rates and, at times, below cost. When the latter happens, providers either must subsidize the care themselves or overbill other patients to make up the difference. Instead, Mayo has decided to charge the market rate.”

“Medicare reimbursement rates are far too low to cover the costs of high-quality medical services, and Medicaid reimbursement is even worse,” Reynolds said. “Very few ‘top doctors’ will accept new Medicare patients. Half of Medicaid users are forced into HMOs because half of private physicians, even more in many areas, will not treat them.”

“it’s just the tip of the iceberg. More shortages are to come,” said Lalli.

Ridenour says the situation will only worsen if President Obama’s health care law is not repealed. “It is so difficult for Medicaid recipients to find doctors that Medicaid enrollees already have been utilizing emergency room care at twice the rate of uninsured patients,” she said. “We can expect it to be increasingly difficult for Medicaid and Medicare patients to find doctors and other providers.”

Reynolds said the inevitable reaction from government is the application of even-harsher price controls.

“Price controls boost demand and discourage supply, resulting in ‘shortages,’” Reynolds said. “Politicians imagine that they can somehow force medical care providers to work for peanuts, but we abolished slavery a long time ago.”

Ridenour suggests the lesson of the Mayo Clinic’s decision is that government-run health care is inherently flawed. “This reduces the supply of people willing to provide health care services such as doctors, nurses, medical staff, and support, and the supply of equipment like hospital beds, diagnostic tools, etc. Shortages develop, and those who are sick or injured suffer. This is why governments should not try to administer health care,” she added.

I'll respond to Iso's post (since it did not contain one insult directed at me or my wife)

This is nothing new. This is a satellite clinic of five primary care physicians in Glendale, Arizona who decided not to accept Medicare "Assignment" on its Medicare patients on a tria basis. This means if you have Medicare and wish to use this facility, you must pay the balance without the protection of Medicare reimbursement allowable payments.

It is worth noting that this decision was made prior to the implementation of the ACA in 2010. It is also worth noting that the rest of the Arizona Mayo Clinic has not joined with this facility in this practice. Also, consider that primary care doctors had been continually receiving the short end of the Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement policies for a decade or more.

The ACA is attempting to change this by increasing reimbursement rates in both Medicare and Medicaid for primary care and preventative medicine. This will take some time to adjust. Yes, many physicians will continue the practice of limiting the number of Medicare patients in their practices.

My view is that money IS available to provide increased reimbursements, and level the playing field for Medicare, IF we reduce the ridiculous over-utilization of advance medical services when they are not indicated and begin the process of rewarding efficient delivery of medical services.

A little math is in order here. The US spends 17% of its GDP on health care. Far above the rate of most other nations. Yet, we have little in increased quality of health to show for it. The money is not being spent wisely.

Blaming the problems of providing care to an expanding population of seniors, while services are out-pacing inflation, on the ACA, is disingenuous as best. The real conversation should recognize the complexity of this problem and the historical context in how it was generated.

The ACA allows a framework for the private sector to fix the system. It may work. What, obviously, does not work, is the current system; which is unraveling before our eyes. The remaining option is a single payer system.
