Too deep fin is better than one sticking out. Sticking out spins out.
Use packing tape, the clear stuff. Add it to the base of your fin, stick it in, and see how much more or less you need for a flush fit.

Thanks!

For now I used two layers of black electric tape in the front of the root and one on the back. Tightening the screw pulled in the base flush and nicely. Tried it on water today. Works great! The fin I was talking about is Makani Kohola 40 cm. Works much better than the original 42 cm fin the board had. I'm glad that it was lost! Laughing Kohola showed tons of power, excellent upwind performance. No spinouts. I used to catch them often with the original fin.
Will stick with the tape to the end of the season and do epoxy work as was described here during winter. It will be nice little project.

Andrei.

i have Select, MFC and Makani fins
did not have any issues with Select fins until the one i purchased 2 days ago Sad
the 43 cm Makani Hahalua was the worst.
sanding and filing for hours
the fin is good, butt the base sucked for fit.
personally do NOT understand these issues with power boxes
next time i will bring my board with me when i purchase a fin new !!!!

warning: i am a shill Smile
whatever that means ...

With the fins I have there has never been any logic to which brand fits and which doesn't , quite a few are made in the same factory.

to Joe, they did develop some new technology a while back, electricity, my last fin purchase came from Bulgaria, so taking the board is cumbersome and pricy

What I can't get over is the when the fin that comes with the board doesn't fit
