This makes 3 GWS attacks in about a month.

Well, either they're getting pissed off, or they're hungrier than usual.

It's not just humans that are being attacked.

Here's an article about how recently, "shark attacks now represent the largest hurdle to the otters' recovery from the endangered species list". And it states that otters are generally thought NOT to be on the sharks snack list.

http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_19983492

Yes, yes, I realize that an otter is still more likely to be hit by a car on the way to the beach or struck by lightning, but it's still a frightening development.

I have a friend that helps tag great whites off the Farallons and they stated that the current count is about double that of "normal". Maybe that has something to do with it?

As of a week ago, the kiters were seeing them almost daily at Waddell. There's definitely something different going on.

This article is interesting

I'm going to save up some coin and buy me a killer whale.

Higgy, thanks for posting the link above. Interesting Halloween reading indeed. Apparently, even the GW Sharks have fears.

I, for one am happy to sea the white shark population rebounding (if it is indeed the case, not some other phenomenon that would bring a higher concentration of existing sharks from other area affected by global warming, which of course doesn't exist, you ask that bitch Sandy)

Better reporting is a big factor. We saw lots of sharks and had a few encounters in the past but didn't call anybody. Now with the net there is an easy way to send out news.

I saw a killer whale while standing at the beachtop at Waddell about 5yrs ago. There was only one kiter out, I am not sure if she knew the orca was out there, the whale was about 2-3football fields off the beach and moving slow. The dorsal fin was quite big, about 3-4ft tall.

About a week ago some friends of mine got really close to a killer whale outside Moss Landing. The killer whale came right up to the side of their sailboat. It was so close that one guy took his feet down off the deck just in case. I also saw a pod of those things outside Moss Landing a few years ago. It was during a period of a lot of cold water upwelling. I saw whales, dolphins, and a huge sea creature that I will never know what it was.
