There is probably another post on this subject but I can never seem to find anything with the search option on the forum.
I took the vent screw out of my freestyle board yesterday after keeping it in there for about 8 weeks. The O ring was slightly deformed and "Dry" although not having any cracks in it. I took a bit of rolled up toilet paper and stuffed in the hole and it came out damp, repeated the process a few times and then left a piece of paper in there for while and that came out dry after about an hour in place. Did a death search for any dings, cracks or punctures in my board but could not find any. so the water seems to have somehow gotten in through the vent hole.
Is this something I have to worry about, and if so what to do? |

Yeah, that bulletin board SEARCH function is pretty lame, but it can be madse to help.
Hit SEARCH
Enter <vent AND screw> (everything between the < and the >)
Hit the "Search for all terms" button
Hit the Topics button
Then hit search

Thanks guys!
Had a toilet paper stuffed in the vent hole over night and checked it earlier and it came out completely dry, weighed the board as well. Says online that it should be 6.8kg +/- 6% and its 7 kg with straps so by looks of it things haven´t gone very bad. Will continue to store it in a warm room with vent open and see if any humidity is coming from that thing.
Damn vent screw and o rings :/ |

Leave the toilet paper in there, helps it dry. You can find an O-ring at Orchard Supply Hardware, a good auto parts store, or a plumbing supply house, bring one with you for matching. _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie

This thing puzzles me. Left the vent screw open for a few days with toilet paper stuffed in, always came out completely dry. Got a new O ring, had a session and checked again after that and the paper came out damp.
What´s going on?? |

There's been a lot of discussion lately about areas of boards that appear to be damaged or compromised that might allow water to enter the board.
In my view, the only way to find out is putting some light positive pressure into the board to find the areas leaking water into the board. In your case, it's the vent component assembly, to include the plastic component glassed into the board.
To test the board, you could set the freshly used board in the sun for a while, and then do the bubble test looking for escaping air. Or, you can drill a hole in the nose of the board, and use light pump to establish a very slight positive pressure, and do the bubble test. While I think that the latter test will more dependably reveal any subtleties and their nature, it makes good sense to do a sun test first. |

my 1st thought was it took on water again as well.
Another way to test is in the suspect area, tape, any tape, masking tape my preference : a sandwich baggie type or similar piece of clear plastic over the area then leave in the sun, watch for condensation on the inside of the plastic . _________________ K4 fins
