I heard this unfortunate interpretation recently:

RDM = Regular Diameter Mast

SDM = Small Diameter Mast

Yea for someone who doesn't know the gear it can be confusing lol. For awhile I always thought the R meant regular lol oops

Yup those are poor definitions. The industry says

Reduced Diameter Mast (RDM)
Standard Diameter Mast (SDM)

You should probably subtly correct whomever was giving those definitions
before somebody buys the wrong thing.

And that's why we take little heed of someone's judgement on sail type and windspeeds, board type or fin foils.
You need SOME experience to make statements about how something works.
