|
|
I'm starting to get concerned about my Exocet Windsup, about the middle of the board I have noticed a crease from side to side on the underneath.
The board is only about 6 months old and lightly used, not jumped or anything like that and no this is not where it gets strapped onto the car.
It's like it is where two pieces of foam were joined together or something in the manufacturing process.
It's only about 1/16" to 1/32 deep but about an inch wide.
You can see it and feel it with your hand.
The crease goes perfectly straight from side to side and now the finish is starting to crack right in the middle and on one side at the edges of the crease.
For all I know the crease has always been there, I just noticed it about a month ago.
Opinions?

http://boardlady.com/lines.htm
I have seen the above several times, it is when the PVC is joined together with glue, straight line, usually only seen on the bottom, the cases I have seen it was back from the nose , maybe 18".
Supposedly the PVC is only 8' long and the joint is placed in a non critical area, like not between the footstraps.
The boardlady says the line is caused by a temperature difference when heated between the glue and PVC, the glue rises , like a mosquito bite.
This looks more severe than I have seen when the above was the diagnosis.
You could feel those more than see them. My thoughts are if its straight like you say it is, it came that way.. and something like the ridges explanation is correct.

Ok but those are raised ridges, this is a depression about 1/32" deep.

Definitely not. What's disturbing is how the finish coat is starting to crack along this line.

I would agree with outcast, time to see the dealer about your warranty options, especially before things get any worse.

Looks like a buckle and the start of hairline cracks in the finish coat.

I believe it has been there all along but I just noticed it recently when the light hit it a certain way.
It looks like they missed a section of the PVC underneath the epoxy and above the foam. It's as if it was put down in layers and the layers didn't butt up there.
It doesn't seem to me like this could develop later but I'm certainly no expert.
Dealer has been notified and he is awaiting reply from France.

Interesting BB - I purchased an Exo Mahalo that came with a very similar, but deeper, crease running fully across the board - straight out of the box!
