the p/x mast especially in SDM will accommodate a lot of different sails

its a constant curve mast bend.

Check out Ezzy Zephyr, sized at 7.5 but very powerful sail (ezzy says power of 8.5, I don't believe too much of an exaggeration). It rigs very nicely on Powerex 460 SDM. Very long boom length (226 cm) sometimes gets in the way when I use it on a 115L board, and highly tunable. Not very fast at low wind settings. If I had to do it over again, I would get a Superfreak UL 8.0, I love that sail in smaller sizes. Its not overly powerful sail, but what's not to love about a 4kg sail that big.

read the target usage of the zephyr. it is supposed to be used with long boards. it pulls from a higher center of effort. friend of mine got his ribs bruised very badly from a serious over powered fling over the front. he now only uses it in super steady state winds with his short boards.

agree with John on the Zephyr,

the other offerings from Ezzy are much better suited. Cheetah would be my pick, non camed .
Has a huge range .

If Dolly Parton windsurfed it would be her choice, the sail fills up with the slightest breeze, just like her bra

I just sold my 7.5 '06 sailworks retro and replaced it with a new 2012 Ezzy Cheetah. First time I got catapulted in a gust and landed on the sail I completely destroyed one of the battens. They are carbon tubes and quite fragile, I have been using Ezzy sails now since '99 and have never broken a batten. The 2 sails are similar. The new Cheetah feels lighter to me, and can handle more wind, I am using it with an Ezzy mast, so mast / sail compatability is ideal. Sailworks makes a good sail, but the battens are crap, and expensive to replace.

I guess you mean you destroyed the Retro batten?

I had the same question, but the last sentence about the good sail & crap battens confirms

Carbon Tubes are not Crap Battens. They're lightweight, stiff and fairly easily replaceable.

To the OT: I am using a 3-cam KA Koncept 8.5m on a 460 + powerex Fixed Extension. Works great at my weight (175-ish now..)

Re: zephyr, blaming the sail for the catapult seems ridiculous. Zephyr works fine on my short 115L board, with limitations that I noted (very long boom). It is not jerky or over-sensitive to gusts (other sails are Hot dacron Superfreak spongy sails), and I use it mainly on a wide board for my desperate low wind days. I believe it delivers on the power. dhmark
