Robby moved over because he owns NaishSails and Boards, and Maui has more exposure than Oahu. Naish kites are #1 selling.
I don't mind surfsailing with a 6 meter sail and 100 liter board. Don't need to plane out, just to get out and upwind, then ride the wave in.
I have no idea where the outside scenes of RIP are taken, but one week before filming began, Naish and Cabrina joined us at Hukilau, and sailing the W break, looks a lot like his slalom board full speed jump stuff, complete with the Maleakahana looking background.
His claim of the boneyards wave is exxagerated, as you know, and can tell from the non changing camera angle. Just like EndlessSummer's little white lie about CapeStFrancis. There is no real way out after riding a wave IN at boneyards, and it sections like you wouldn't believe, you ending up in the shorepound between Sunset's deepest peak, which connects to backyards, and yards itself. Normal course of action after straightening out is the urchin dance while trying to stay atop a sand channel.
I've sailed yards with HaroldIggy well over 30 days in 5 years. He liked Oahu because of the lack of yahoos and such. Makena at the old Intercontinental is 5 bottom turn off the lip combo starboard turns, longer than DH. |

Update laventana is reported to get a ATM in the next couple weeks, this could be baja time though. Will be at Banditos Bar, sounds like a good place to have a ATM...
And there are low cost ways to get here from SJD take a shuttle directly from the airport and again Banditos Bar owner has started a connecting shuttle to pick you up from the side of the road in san antonio. (for those concerned I have picked up friends in San Antonio and when waiting there for those dropped off it is like Mayberry, the police showed up to make sure they were ok, and because my friend was 2 hours late found a ride for him to LaVentana ($20.00) and offered a room there if he wanted to spend the night)
This shuttle to connecting shuttle is fast and is roughly $45.00. If you want to go real cheap walk to the road from airport and take a local bus to san antonio, then Banditos shuttle for a total of about $30.00
The various links to these are at www.la-ventana.info |
