A large visor works pretty good (like on a baseball cap).
Don't googles fog up when wet and cold? |

We're not as macho as you guys up there Kevin. Any guy who bumps a shark, comes up bleeding, and has to ditch his rig at Davenport is a giant in my book! |

OK, we also have no reading comprehension down here. Was a great story though. |

hehe... no problem... the first line of my post in the shark thread was something like, "here's the account from the sailor involved." But, the layout of the post made the first line easy to miss, so many people thought I was posting in the first person. Got a few emails and texts about my being OK. LOL
I've edited the original post to try to make it clear that I was nowhere near that! I'm glad I wasn't! I haven't even been to Waddell or Davenport this season... but I did go make two San Carlos trips
Did you get any of that magic at Secos a week or so ago? _________________ Kevin Kan

Cold...
Couple years ago, when I was living in my van, I got to sail at Berkeley when it was snowing at the campus, 3 miles away. Water temps 49, air temps 44, winds 20-28 mph. About 20 of us were out, no goggles. But some smartalec's wore surfing hoods, for some reason.
Heck, TWO girls went out that day! |

Kevin, we've had a few great days this summer down here. Yes, I made it out on some good days. However, this was a below average summer on the whole. One huge upside is that the water warmed up close to 70 for close to a month. Ocean has been dark blue, and weather (besides wind) has been spectacular.
Sailed Davenport last summer on a huge swell. That blew my mind. |

yeah, I sailed Cabrillo in August, and it was as warm as I can ever remember. Still have not hit Secos... sailed Cabrillo, Sunset, Seal, County Line... but Secos is that elusive spot that I've never hit.
BTW, I grew up about 5 miles from Cabrillo, but I didn't start windsurfing until I moved away. Anyway, I always bring my gear when I go home to visit my family... have had pretty good luck on the winter holidays: turkey day and Christmas!
I love sailing in SoCal... funny to think that Cabrillo has free, hot showers... pretty much the last place (at least in my world) that you would need it. _________________ Kevin Kan

Hope to see you down here for the holidays. County Line can be epic in December and January. Best kept secret....Hot showers at Leo in the campground for 50 cents. |
