So your application and your solution are the only viable ones?

To think people say *I'm* arrogant!

There are dozens of viable options for transporting windsurfing gear and those options will vary considerably based upon individual situations & needs.

It's just a matter of thinking and planing ahead and it looks like just about everything has been covered in the above posts. Now it's decision time.

I am not sure that trailers were mentioned, but if you have a place to park one, it can be another option. I use an extended body Ford Econoline van myself.

Many years ago, I carried everything on and in a four door sedan. The sales people always gave me a funny look when I took out a tape measure to see what the distance was between the front passenger seat foot well (seat laid back) and the back window above the rear deck. I needed enough room for a 10m sail and it was a little odd trying to explain why.

Hi;

U2U2- I really like your set up in your MiniVan

I carry all my gear in a Chevy Venture 2003, and have a nice set up with all my gear and usually carry 3 sailor, including me.

I will provide pictures, I have also installed a 15 gal water bubble with 12 v pump for cleaning gear and ourselves, it is a great addition.

I am now waiting to see the upcoming Ford Transit connect long wheelbase coming next year, It will be a great way to carry gear and save a few extra MPGs.

Will be good if everyone post pictures to share ideas,..

Thanks;

Low income alternative/solution.
Ford long Econoline van, 6 windsurf boards, 14 sails, 6 booms, 12 masts, 2 sailors total, enough room to sleep in, sink, refrigerator, and room enough to 2 bicycles.

I have a standard size E-150 which is comfortably carrying four boards, 7 sails, 6 masts, four booms, boxes of wetsuits and other gear. Sleeps one. Roof rack takes the SUP (when I'm lazy I run the SUP boards down the middle of the van.) Best idea I had was to reserve a storage drawer for my wife to do whatever she wants with. Her happiness at having "her" space far outweighs any frustration I might have at using valuable storage space to transport hair bands.

Aside from lessons, the best money I've ever spent windsurfing.

That's a GOOD thing. While vehicles with boards on top or WS stickers on the bumpers get rousted all around me when sleeping on streets or in parking lots, I could park my generic white Econoline anywhere I liked without suspicion. If that hadn't been sufficient, I thought about magnetic door signs such as
"Mike's Plumbing" or "Mike's Manure".

You and LeeD got it going with your retirement accomodations in your vans. Don't need no gas, just find street parking near the river or bay!

I otoh, need to live in a house for the wife. The neighbors would all think
there's some serious infidelity going on with that plumber's van parked in front of our house! Embarassed

Chasing wind 17,000 miles per year @ 7 mpg (a consistent 11 before ethanol) ain't "no gas" ... sadly. "WSing is green", my butt! The huge variety of much greener haulers on the market these days are well worth considering if a dedicated vehicle is being considered or hauling the garden club or a family on short notice isn't required. It's nothing short of fantastic when I can be on the road, loaded for bear, the very minute the wind picks up. That nails unexpected sessions quite often, whether they're 10 or 70 miles away.

I parked my loaded van behind my house, but for security reasons, not rumor control. I suppose I could have stuck a Chippendales logo on the side and parked out front for the wife's image.
