Bard, dont tell your little tale to Larry Ellison. He is buying businesses, homes in Malibu, and Incline, and he bought Lanai for the hell of it!

Yes, they now call his neighborhood "Billionaires Row". Ferrari's, Maseratti's, Porsche's. His new restaurant is Nobu. He has bought up a bunch of low cap real estate. I assume to protect his money. Billionaires row is the best beach front real estate in the world. This should protect his money from inflation because it is an asset that you cannot replace, and will be in demand from our new Chinese overlords.... Laughing

If you hadn't noticed, we are in a new RE bubble. My daughter bought a house in SF 9 months ago, and the neighbor just sold their smaller home next door for $150k more. What's the difference between Obama's bubble and Bush's bubble? Jobs...

I don't see a real estate bubble, I disagree.... We are talking about the two best real estate markets in the country .The reason Bush's bubble had jobs is obvious, we were inflating the bubble and many temporary jobs were being created, those people are now eating crayons...until they reinvent themselves.

Mac,

Because I believe that Obama has socialistic tendencies, you call that an attack? He reaps what he sows, it's just an observation by those without blinders.

There are thousands of posts on this forum that outline a vast number of things Obama has said, promised & done, plus all the radical left wing buddies he professed to be his mentors, and it all strongly suggests that he has socialistic tendencies (that's putting it mildly). I could spend weeks making a list, but for what reason? It simply doesn't matter what a conservative says or proves, it's just "talking points or lies" to the left. All of this has been hashed out a hundred times before, there is no reason to do it again.

Try as you can, nothing will change my mind. I at least acknowledge that I will not change your mind.

"When the left moves toward the center, the right will move too."

techno900, do you actually believe what you said? It's quite clear to better than half the country that the right has unabashedly moved so far to the right that nothing sensible could be negotiated. How many Republicans have signed Grover Norquist's "no tax" pledge? I seriously doubt you could count the total number of Republicans who didn't sign the pledge on two hands. If a Republican was to break with far right crowd, he or she would be hounded with threats and retaliation. That's the hard truth. Tell me why Senator Olympia Snow is walking away from politics?

Maybe you forgot that when President Bush signed the tax cuts into law in 2001 and 2003 there was a specific caveat that they were "temporary". And, that was the agreement made with a congress that was controlled entirely by Republican majorities. Now, all those same Republicans still left in Congress, to include all the newer extreme rightwing Republicans, have conveniently forgotten that fact. So, any decision to let the "temporary" tax cuts expire is cast as huge tax hike that will be used as a wealth redistribution scheme championed a socialist/Marxist President Obama. Why can't Republicans face the facts that you can't cut enough government to eliminate the deficit and pay down our debt? Somehow Republicans believe that to fix things you need to cut tax revenues even further. While historically low taxes over the last 10-12 years haven't grown the economy and instead ballooned our debt hugely because they couldn't pay for themselves. And what is even more ludicrous is the fact that you're blindly following candidates Romney and Ryan when they don't have honesty and candor to tell the country the core details of their tax plan and how it will pay for itself. Don't you see that nothing adds up? It all depends on this vacant wish that suddenly "job creators" will come out of the woodwork and the existing supply and demand curve will miraculously change guaranteeing good paying jobs for virtually everyone.

Maybe you can tell us how you and the majority of others in the middle class, or what's left of it, will suddenly change their thrifty and cautious ways and start spending like there is no tomorrow. What big ticket items would you buy if Romney wins, and you wouldn't if Obama wins?

Chandler...that might be your best post yet, did you author it? You touched on the most important point in the entire debate...the "no-tax pledge". Not during the Reagan/Tip years, not during the Clinton/Newt years...did we have a Grover Norquist forcing people to sign this pledge, which eliminates them from a possible compromise, and forces gridlock. The Wall Street Journal called it a big problem, but many righties just ignore it, and let Grover own them.

Yeah, it's just me trying to get some here to think beyond the Republican talking points. I have to admit though, it appears to be a fruitless battle.

Techno--if you teach writing you know that specific is better than general. What you have just whined about is who Obama went to school with. You should know that this country was founded on basic principles that rejected guilt by association. So that amounts to an unconstitutional ad hominem attack.

I am still waiting for a single example of one legislative proposal or administrative proposal that is socialistic compare to standard government approaches over the last forty years. Just one, with specifics--or your paper gets a "D".

For those with an open mind, here's another take about candidate Obama's speech in 2007. NW30, most likely it won't change you mind, but maybe you'll take a look anyway.

Just the wealthy? Everyone should at least consider it, even if it's just $100 or $1,000. There are far too many very wise, very lucky, and/or very rich men and nations and pension funds buying it to ignore it completely.

You're correct, it doesn't change my mind, in fact it is a very lame attempt at justifing the things that he said. Of course he didn't have to say the words "race" or "racist" in his speech to make it one all about the divisions that he sees in this country with both race and class.
BTW, the Stafford Act which he was referring to in regards to N.O. was repealled before he gave that speech, but he threw it out there anyway, pandering the lack of knowledge with his audience by implying that N.O. was treated in a bigoted fashion.
