4k buys a decent enough VAN to sleep in, while driving to Rio or Brentwood for one meal a day. Don't need a poptop to sleep.

thanks for all the great info. up to now I've been looking at a trailer rental and a place at Rio Viento that would cost around 4G's for 6 weeks.

Haven't gotten a reply from the RVWA yet.

Anyone know if a pop up camper is appropriate given wind conditions? I can pick one up here fairly inexpensively this time of year, then would have to tow it out there, or I guess I could find one on Craigslist in Cali and pick it up once I get out there.

I really, really want to make this happen, so thanks for all the information.

going to an ABK camp this weekend, so will pump them for information also., really don't want to sleep on the ground for 6 weeks.

re POP up camper . There are at least 3 that I know of that park on Sherman Island

the ones I mean (ALINER being one make) thay are hard sided and form a triangle. A canvas sided one would be fine if parked out of the direct wind, of those locations only the Sherman park access would offer shelter.

From my perspective getting beat up nightly by the winds not a pleasant experience.

I TAKE IT THAT YOU have not been there to visualize the topography ?

I live in NY and have only seen the area on Google Earth. That is why I am trying to gather as much information as possible in order to make informed decisions.

Aliners are pretty cool, but a bit pricey. That is great info about the popup campers, U2, thanks.

OK, here is what you have, the high $ place Rio Viento has hook ups with water, as does Brannan Island state park. cost $$

the other sites, are club sponsored RVWA, and the only thing they have are porta lets or more substantial restrooms, no water. fairly cheap, but not free,
powerlines camp you just need to join the RVWA to camp, tent for a long period would suck.

The only real shelter from the wind is

http://www.sacramentoriver.org/access_site.php?access_site_id=172

you can camp with a trailer or RV in seclusion mostly from the winds.
The area is very rural , but entirely possible you could get a house share rental in Antioch or Pittsburg , lots of hotels, not pricy but average price.

On the levee road leading to Sherman Island ACCESS, their are houses and a trailer park, possibilities of rental there. How to get in touch ??

you might try calling Delta windsurf, they are right there.

I use to camp, but am now to old for that, and want a little more comfort, for a couple days maybe..
I stayed in a hotel last year for a week
