That's the whole purpose of helmets, to absorb and spread the impact energy over time and area so the brain doesn't have to stop so fast. |

I understand that but the only impact was the bottom of my board on face of the next swell. Needless to say that I ended up with a broken board. _________________ The Time a Person Spends Windsurfing is not Deducted from their Lifespan...

I got it this time. I thought you hit the water flat on your head.
I've often wondered why flat landings are such a shock. I guess flexed knees and spinal curvature can soak up only so much. That's probably why many lifelong runners end up with brain pathology resembling that of pugilistic dementia. |

so maybe thicker, softer pads would help in these situations?
or mini helmets for your feet! |

I was really just trying to put it out of it misery. It was already buckled all the way across just behind the mast track. That time I really tried to land hard. I was close to the launch and was trying to snap it. It didn't snap although that was the last time I sailed it. It definitely started taking on water after that. _________________ The Time a Person Spends Windsurfing is not Deducted from their Lifespan...

Sadly, the helmet is blue, and has been the apparent cause of more than one kid at the beach asking me if I'm some sort of beach cop or lifeguard. |
I have painted to suit the last 3 helmets of mine.
current one is this:
pay for shipping both ways and $15 will get you a custom lid

I missed a jibe the other day (notice how I implied that I usually make them there ) the sail went up, swung all the way around and came full speed into my forehead, got a bit of a sore neck, but I might have been done without the helmet... |

Just an update since my last post. This last Thursday I discovered that my trusty Gath helmet had reached the end of its day. While I used it without a problem, I discovered a large break in the outer shell. I have to admit that it was coming to the end of its life, so no bad feelings. For better than 10 years, it has served me well.
I bought a new one today, and I wanted to say that the neoprene component in the front was replaced by an EVA component. Certainly looks to be an improvement in what I view as an outstanding product. |

Yes, and I chose to stick with the full helmet style that covers the ears rather than changing to the convertible model. |
