Greetings windsurfers of the snowy white north,
Can anyone give me a general overview of snow/ice windsurfing equipment? Someone I know kindly offered me an older snow/ice setup that somehow attaches a rig to a tri-ski setup. I have yet to see it, but it sounds intriguing being that I love to windsurf, downhill ski, x-country ski, etc. But I'm wondering, what sort of equipment is there for winter fun? Is some of it oriented more toward snow versus ice, i.e. lake versus fields/slopes? Have there been advances is these winter setups over the years, i.e. am I looking at the 1980, 35lb O'Brien longboard of snow/ice sailing when there is a modern Mistral Syncro 100 liter board of snow/ice? How does one dress for windsurfing in 20-degree temps with a 20mph wind? Do you still use a harness and footstraps?
Thanks in advance! |

Also, see my thread here. I'm going to change the brackets such that it connects the board and ski directly. I'm also going to install footstraps. |

Hi,
A great thing with Iceboarding is that old sails with less och no twist works better than modern sails which helps to keep the cost down. The following board-concepts have proven to work really well on ice.

hey Boardtests, nice setup there!
ive got an old fibrespar ice board..seems pretty stable at speed. just doesnt turn as sharp as id like it to, so im going to be building up a more carving type board, better for smaller patchy ice surfaces.
some good info and ideas there. _________________ i like longboards. |
