Just got an epoxy/carbon Open Ocean at the swap. It's 8'1" and 21" wide. Any ideas on the volume estimate?

Show it to Brian. I wouldn't think that it more than 75-80 ltrs. Does your board have a vent screw? Pics?

Probably upper 60s, possibly as much as 70, probably best suited for 3.7 to 4.7 for bigger guys.

Brian's going to have a portion of the new website to address volume and how it's used in the design of a board. Hopefully we'll have something together by spring.

Small, medium or large. I'm sure whatever the volume is, it should sail fine for what you bought it for. High wind??

It has to be less than 70 maybe less than 60. Might sail like a 55 or a 80??

No worries.

Ya that’s probably more accurate. I was thinking about my 8’2” being closer to 80 liters because when I first talked to Brian about building it I was looking to replace my old 80ltr board. We ended up talking about sail sizes I would use most with it. I told him 4.5 / 5.0 and that’s what I got. It definitely sails smaller than my old board. All I know is when I’m wound up on a 4.5 that board is simply heaven!

Yeah it feels closer to my GF's 65 liter board than my 85 liter one. Mines a '94 though so its probably smaller for its length than yours.

Looking at it in my living room it seems too small for the 4.7 to 5.7 I was hoping for. I found another one in the basement of a pawn shop that is an 8'6" , 24" wide. It is a monster compared to the 8'1". May fit the bill for my 195lbs.

A 5.7 on a classically shaped 8-1 OO? Most people had a very hard time believing I could use a 5.2 on the many boards that size I've owned, and they were definitely not OOs. Brian pegs his boards that size for about 3.7-4.7, and he's right. @ 3.2 the chop is rough and a 5.2 tends to "burden" their nose. One could adapt or make do, but given the number of great boards that size in HR, compromise isn't necessary.
