Hey gang, just a word of warning to everyone.
With the Labor day crowd this past weekend the lifeguards were pretty busy keeping swimmers out of the flagged surf zone. Conditions were pretty intense with big crowds, strong wind, and big surf. Unfortunately, a sailor came in outside of the zone and near some people which caused a strong reaction from the lifeguard tower and later in face to face discussion on the beach. Seems we have a new captain now and he was really pissed. He announced via speaker and later again in the face to face, that he is considering closing the beach to windsurfing on the weekends just like they have done for kiting. He didn't take kindly to explanations that were offered as to why it occurred either.
Now, with another hot & likely crowded summer weekend approaching let's all be aware of the designated area and stay within that at all costs. Even if you have to turn around to come back in or kick out of a wave. Swimmers are to be avoided in all cases, even if in our own surf zone. An incident were contact with a swimmer occurs in our surf zone will be bad for all of us. Remember that they don't have to maintain our access on a crowded weekend and we should be grateful that they do. Consider that this last weekend was a warning and that if this coming weekend ends up in another close call that we may get banned. So, please stay away from any and all swimmers. Let's not give them an excuse to shut down windsurfing.
Thanks,
BRIMAR
