It's blowing 22 at Stevenson. Cameras show some definite smoke from the fire in White Salmon. Can you breathe down there? This morning in Hood River, you could feel the smoke in the throat, before the east winds picked up. Is it still worth going to catch the East Winds?

Don't forget that 22 mph minus a few knots of current = teens.

8.1!!!!!

People around me were either on a 5.0 or a 5.6

The smoke was terrible. Cleared out around 1:00 tho, as the fire near White Salmon seems under control.

yesterday. It was pretty good for most of the day. The sensor today looked only a little windier than yesterday when I left so I only brought the big stuff again. Today I went with a 6.8 and it was excessive...very very excessive... Lots of fun though. My big red hifly was barely touching the water on the north reaches Laughing

Did anyone else see the gigantic sea lion cruising around? I almost bumped into him a few hundred yards off of bobs beach. He was at least 8 feet

YES! I sailed my 6.6 to within about 50 feet of (HER?)
I was sailing south (on an easterly that's Port)
It poped up, facing away from me, I Barked (like a sea lion?)
It turned around and gave me a look like I was
some kind of PUP. It dove under and came up nearby,
It stood up almost 5 feet out of the water and checked me out.
BIG, but not more than 12 feet long, hundreds of pounds, easy
so being on Port I assume I have no Right of Way as the
Sea Lion was down wind of me and:
The Sea Lion can claim Soverian Immunity as no club Rule
Government Law, or common sense practace can be made,
that a Sea Lion cannot Ignore.

The sea lion has been out a few times I've been there, but I didn't
see it on the 6th. I did however ride my 5.5, and 80 Ltr board
for a couple of hours from probably 11-1. Yesterday (the 7th)
I rode a 4.7 and a 70 Ltr Hi-Tech, and it was sweet! You and your
8M sail must be catching the wind in the afternoon as it's dying off,
or, you're not getting up to the good wind near the red buoy.
Today, I'm waiting for the West wind (didn't sail the East this AM).
I might come down Stevenson if it looks like the wind will be stronger,
and since it's going to be West, I'll probably go to Bob's.

The smoke pretty much cleared out yesterday by about 1 PM,
but I didn't let that stop me from sailing in the AM yesterday.

Speaking of Bob's, what's the deal with letting the grass burn out,
I don't remember the town letting that happen before.

It looked like a male. 12 feet is gigantic as far as sea lions go. I was guessing 8 feet. Not an animal that you would want angry at you in the water.
