The truth is John that you and I share the same sailing beliefs.
Yes Florida has more shark bites than anywhere in the world.
but really a four foot spinner shark is like a joke. We have 18ft 2000 pound sharks in our line up eating things that we look like in our black rubber.
Florida is a big state. The great whites are in a very small area compared to your giant state.
All of the pictures on this site were taken where we windsurf and SUP on a regular basis.

Fact is, Florida has more attacks because more people are in the water.
If we had more in the water on Cape Cod, results would be obvious as well, except for one big difference...we got WHITEY and populations are exploding due to the seal pops.
Expect more attacks, and sooner or later expect the full meal to be taken, not just a bite, like this past season (so far).
You guys are living on the edge of disaster and you know it, by SUP & surfing the outter Cape.
I do the same when I sail on thin ice during winter.

spinners are the most visible and mentioned in the excerpt, but are they the one doing the biting? no, it's either bull or tiger. my biggest beef about this thread is the preoccupation people have with sharks when we talk about playing in the surf. sorta like the airplane hysteria. the perceived outcome has blinded far too many vs the risks.
we play among the bull and tiger. they are big and nasty. BFD. it's part of our reality. not a big one for us in particular, because we spend more time above the water, right? most of the time, when i've seen the tax collector, he runs away. they don't like to mess with stuff that they are not familiar with.
i'm more afraid of shearing my fin off on a manta ray or large turtle. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

no, the reality of the shark thing here is that it's closed the beaches....,
and we can't sail where we should without whistles and bullhorns and those little shitty green golf cart thingys. We rolled from plovers to sharks without any kind of intermission
and i'm tired of looking at dead 1/2 marine animals sent to me on my phone.....they all smell terrible.. i get it..... so stop it "you know who you are" you people!
and it's a pain in the ass having to answer questions from the fatboy beachchair crowd who sit there building their cholesterol plaques and asking me "Aren't you worried"?."
and i couldn't take my kids surfing this weekend even if i wanted to
and sharks don't even like waves!....look at that last picture and how the fish has his or her head turned AWAY from the wave.......I'd be on that little nugget ....or in it ......eat the seal later....fck dude ....you're shaped like a toprpdedo and can do like 30 mph.....charge that thing! (Dolphins do! ...just sayin)
and luckily it will all miraculously disappear in two days when the lifeguards go back to school and the first swell arrives.....the line up WILL have a Policeman.
screw summer...! _________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=zw0MgkO7VXw |

we all need to stop feeding the hysteria. ignorance is the mind killer, right along with fear. too bad your stupid "authorities" close down the beach because of sharks. down here they close it down because of lightning. that's the daytona area. oh, the probabilities for either striking pretty ludicrously low.....
thank god i do about half of my sailing at a national seashore. not much in the way of policing. at the lower side of Cape Canaveral, we have jetty park. the lifeguards want us away from the fat swimmers. meanwhile, lots of surfers get to mix it up with them. seen more mishaps from surfers than WS'ers over the years. again, ignorance and fear. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

No hysteria, just a conspiracy by retailers to get vacationers off the beach and into strip malls to rake in a few more bucks on the final weekend of the summer. Come Tuesday, nobody will care |

The shark thing has not been much of an influence on me. A lat muscle pull from the best 5 days of surfing 10ish days ago and a persistent east wind to blame. My problem will be when the next solid waist high, glassy conditions show up; I'll be jones'n for sure
A little sailing would knock the edge though! RC
