Obama made the speech and he left himself open to much criticism from the right because of what he said and how he said it. He has to take the heat just like the right takes the heat when they mess up.

What I posted in bold print was my interpretation of Obama's message. If it had been a quote, it would have in quotes.

I read his speech at least three times and I still see the same message.

No surprise there. He didn't "mess up"; he has said the same thing, in many different ways, in many speeches. He has also said many times that the U.S. is great because of its government. Not its people or its principles ... its government. Then there's his statement that the private sector is the enemy. His campaign promises of four years ago endlessly emphasized adding millions of jobs, primarily "public sector" -- GOVERNMENT -- jobs.
There's very little room for misinterpretation; his message is clearly and repeatedly that big government is our salvation.

How's that workin' out for California?

Things are good in CA. The housing market in the Bay Area is scorching, job production is tops in the nation , and Barrons stated that CA is far from the bottom in terms of fiscal danger. New Jersey, Illinois, and Connecticut are far worse off. When did Obama say the country is great BECAUSE of Govt? or the Private sector is his ENEMY? Have you been studying at the Paul Ryan School of Lying?

I agree Boggs...would someone please give me a quote? Any quote that supports those accusations? (in context please)

The United States had no transportation system that sustained commerce until the Federal government and the railroads developed public-private partnerships to construct the transcontinental railroads. The railroads didn't have the capital to pursue such large projects, and were given the incentive of wholesale grants of land along the rr right of way. The private market had come up with canals--we all remember the mule dragging canal boats, eh?

This success propelled a national market in many products, reduced shipping costs for raw materials (coal, minerals, etc.) and was replicated with public private partnerships developing the Interstate Highway system (46,000 plus miles of roadway, more than $300 billion spent by 1970's, $6 in economic value for every $1 invested) conceived during the Eisenhower administration, the national ports, and the airline infrastructure. Indeed, private enterprise did not build that, they were stuck at the canal and mule stage.

We could ask the same question about the computer industry, with Apple now the biggest corporation in the world. Let me see, the transistor was developed as part of contracts for the US space program, launched by John Kennedy.

But the facts don't matter to those whose hubris is exceeded only by their hatred of a black president. This man's policies, more akin to those of Dwight Eisenhower than Lenin, are continuously described as socialist--despite being the objectives of both parties since the 1970's.

You ought to try walking through South LA. It looks like Syria. I kid not. I lived in LA in the 60's, and it was beautiful. I'm not talking about West LA. I'm talking about Koreatown. What liberalism has done to our largest cities is criminal.

However, every day in Malibu is heaven. 70 degree water, 20 mph with clear water. And the girls...Did I mention the girls?

Bard, you're married ...settle yourself! I'm going to let you have your day in the sun and blame liberalism for everything...I know it gives you warm fuzzies that would make Michael Savage proud.
