Dale Cook's Hucksters are not deep drated at the top than the rest of the sail, as Huckers are modern sails with less twist than normal, similar to NPAlpha's, and most sail companies, more powerful onshore wind wave sails.
You've used 1989 pre twist sails. They suck, have little range, go slow, but are nice when under powered. |

As you know, the Hucker's stated design goal was and increasingly is to raise its COE, in large part to increase its hang time. An important component of that quest was its tighter leech ... common in those pre-twist 1980's/90's sails that jumped so well. The challenge, successfully met, was to use modern design and materials technology rather than brute force to get the loft without all the drag. There are still some advantages to the best-executed pre-twist sails. |

I sometimes wonder...
Is it the twist that killed high jumping, or is it the setup between mast track and footstraps, the inboard straps, and the slower boards most sailors use today?
My JPSlalom jumps as high as anything from the past, coupled with fully twisted slalom 4 cam sails. Just nobody else wants to jump their slalom gear, for fear of breaking it.
My 8'10" Slab slalom also jumps to the moon, but I don't, getting older, more fragile, and injured. \
The new young guns seem to either do freestyle, choosing shoveits over jumps, or Formula, which you shouldn't jump.
Haven't seen much of the wavesailing scene lately, stuck inland. |

Close, its a '90 convertible 5.2 It didnt feel particularly top heavy, a bit but nothing uncomfortable |

Problem is that YOU are looking at the label, while I saw that prototype in 1988 at Windwing's factory in Berkeley as it was being drawn and cut on the table by BardChristman assisted by BillHansen.
All the racers used to hang around there, with BobHuberman constantly chiming in to cut this and add that, to make the sail more friendly for lighter weight riders. Bard was close to 180, and like Bill, wanted the sails to be more powerful to move the recreational 20+ lbs boards around.
Take that sail out in 22mph guts, and it feels top heavy. |

It certainly WORKS.
But maybe TRY a modern 6.0 sail to see the difference in pull and top end.
Modern sail has controlled, small dose of power than you finesse up onto a plane. Old sails had brute power to jerk you onto a plane.
And of course, you're using an old board, which needs more power.
And of course, your skills are not yet refined, so brute power rather than a pump, a wave ride, and some finesse is more your style. |

I use a 2009 6.8 most of the time, it definitely different, but not enormous. |
