I know they are the bullying in on our turf, but these boats are really pretty amazing. I spent Saturday on a course marshal's Protector shooting some pics, and I have a whole new appreciation for their presence on the bay and the skill it takes to sail one.

Enjoy!

Brand affinity is essentially a silly thing, but it's nice to see the North logo on that sail.

I guess that is the "before" picture of the Italian boat. We all watched that thing capsize and it took them a good 45 minutes to get it back upright. Wind was probably averaging high twenties with gusts into the low 30's. Most of the guys were wound up on 4.5's.

ironically we followed the two Luna Rossa boats most of the day, but missed the capsize...they almost went over earlier too.

Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. These ARE pretty cool high-tech water toys...

remembering that these are mere scale models of the "real" AC boats, next year should prove VERY interesting!

More than amazing they are quite ridiculous. There have been already two AC45 capsizes. They cannot even handle the very tame conditions that are at Crissy in these days Confused Shocked

When the big boats hit the water there is going to be epic crashes. Will be awesome to watch them in action..Would hate to be in the back like the guy in the pic above when it pitch-poles..

Last year I sat in the water twice on the same day as Spithill and Coutts wizzed past me on each side. For some reason I thought I would beat them to the point where our paths crossed but in each case I only beat the first boat, necessitating that I put on the brakes. They go alot faster than you expect.
