|
|
The windows of my sail are starting to look a little foggy and with the America's Cup coming to SF I am sure Crissy is going to be especially crazy. Does anyone have some good tricks to making those windows looking like new again. I usually use some dish soap cut with water in a squeeze bottle and a clean rag.
I doubled checked and the fog I am seeing is not just the fog coming through the Golden Gate but there has been a lot of that too. _________________ _____/)_____

Monofilm? Fugheddaboutit, to the best of my knowledge and attempts.
PVC? Piece of cake. Automotive plastic polish + elbow grease or low-speed buffer = quick new window. |

Ahhh, what does Crissy madness have to do with clean and clear sails? |

I think he means seeing the boat traffic. There can be quite a lot of it at Crissy, especially during the races.
Unfortunately it's probably a case of aged monofilm. Not much you can do but that may be a good sign that Crissy is no longer a safe place to use that sail. It's just a matter of time before those panels give way.
Of course you could always just pre-emptively have the panels replaced with new monofilm. Joe in San Mateo would be happy to help with that. Now I hope he gives me a discount, next time I see him

David, there is a product that is used to polish clean and dry film sails. It's called Plexus. I've used it for over a decade to keep new sails looking spanky and older sails get a treatment before going to auction.

Be sure your sails are really dry before using it lest you end up with unattractive streaks.
It really is the best stuff. _________________ Support Your Sport. Join US Windsurfing!

Sails sure lose some transperancy over time. Plexus looks like it could work.
Also, UV Tech, available from Sailworks. Never tried it but you could possibly kill two flies in one shot with this one. UV protectant and helps with clearing faded monofilm.

If used on new sails, these products will most likely slow down fading of monofilm. |

I haven't tried McNett, but I have tried many other kinds of uv shields, including 303, to no avail. On one quiver I applied 303 to the lower or upper half of the sail. We could see no difference later.
Screw it, IMO. |

Mr. Weiss, that Plexus vendor will only sell cases of the product on-line. |

I'm curious now about this Plexus stuff although I'm not sure that it's worth the cost on large sheets of monofilm.
Let us know if you end up trying it and how it works for you.
