How about we start culling by getting rid of the people who don't know that they should have used the word "herd"? |

Methinks Evans was being punny...
Whatever your thought about global warming/ energy consumption etc. there are certain facts that are not propaganda- i.e.-
Since the mid 1800's , the start of the oil economy, we have unleashed into the atmosphere millions of years worth of sequestered carbon, and that doesn't even include coal or gas- if you burn wood, that is contemporary carbon- only slightly faster than that tree falling down and rotting- but burning oil is old carbon- no natural process could ever release that much carbon in 170 years or so- not volcanoes, earthquakes- anything...
And oil is a finite resource which we have built our entire society around- not just fuel and energy, but the feedstock for all our plastics, chemicals, fertilizers etc... We are haeded for tough times as the resource gets harder to find and more expensive.
Critter is right on- too many people...
Evans- look what you started! |

seriously? study up on your earth history. there have been periods when volcanoes released so much toxicity into the atmosphere that the earth went dark. mankind will likely never cause the amount of damage to the planet that nature already has. the biggest problem is mankind thinks himself smarter than nature, and that will never be the case. even now mankind refuses to accept what nature naturally delivers, and does so all in the name of....wait for it...NATURE!
we don't have too many people, we have too many stupid people. eugenics against stupidity is a policy i could get behind. let's start with anyone who votes for Obama again...mandatory castration! |

jkrug- yes, seriously, the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history, Krakatoa was followed by the 'year without summer'- caused by particulate material in the upper atmosphere- not chemically bound carbon such as CO2 and CO- these particulate do get washed out of the air and all goes back to normal- not so with CO2- which is the result of burning oil, gas and coal- though coal does contribute to particulates... I do study earth history, and I prefer accurate and rational discussion over idealogical rants.
Have a good time with your eugenics.. |

Krakatoa was the largest volcano in 'recorded' history...1883. but the earth has been around a few years longer than that. and i believe there were massive earthquakes/vols long time ago that put the earth in darkness for many, many ice-like years.
the debate can go on and on. i do find it no different than arguing the existence of a god...if you believe it, that's fine, but just don't treat everyone else as a'denier' of facts, because the facts aren't there. the conjecture/'faith' is there. one thing we can probably all agree with is pollution of our air and water is just plain not good. |
