and now for a rational response:

-there's nothing secret about the ploy...it's out in the open. the farce has been revealed, only the religiously fanatic stilll cling to the lies.

-how is preventing access to our own natural resources going to get us to be energy independent? answer: it isn't.

-clean our air and our water: both excellent objectives no one disagrees with, but has nothing to do with the fiction of global warming.

-improving the efficiency of vehicles cannot be a govt mandate, anymore than Apple's invention of the ipad was a govt mandate. the private sector creates; the govt hinders and destroys. look at the US Post Office for a prime exmaple of what happen when the govt thinks it should be in the business of business. ditto 'kick starting 21st-century industries'. all the govt does is kick industries.

-make our cities safer and more livable?...uh, yeah, with Obama at the helm, someday every city will be as safe and livable as Detroit and Chicago.

-on the last point i agree: don't let the global warming pundits get away with it!!!

The only problem with this line of thinking is that there is so much denial that Global Warming exists and continues, proven with scientfic data.

What is not understood is whether GW is at the cause of man, or not. And that is where the "ploy" begins and ends.

So, I say, who cares if it's natural cycle or not? Why does that matter?
Can we fight GW either way at this point?
I seriously doubt it.
Can we take steps to reduce our dependency on foreign oil?
Yes.
Will that make a difference in our economy?
Maybe. Maybe not.

Earth will cycle as it always has. Before you know it...we will be in another Ice Age!
Sadly, that will not be in my lifetime.... Crying or Very sad

Sadly, the rare earths needed to produce those pretty wind turbines and Prius batteries are turning large areas of China into toxic wastelands filled with cancer patients. Those 21st century industries aren't as pristine as they might appear.

Rare earth metals are key to global efforts to switch to cleaner energy -- from batteries in hybrid cars to magnets in wind turbines. China’s rare earth industry each year produces more than five times the amount of waste gas, including deadly fluorine and sulfur dioxide, than the total flared annually by all miners and oil refiners in the U.S. Alongside that 13 billion cubic meters of gas is 25 million tons of wastewater laced with cancer-causing heavy metals such as cadmium

It's time to cull the heard. Bottom line there's just too many people on the planet.

"...too many people on the planet." That's exactly the problem. Everything else is a band-aid solution. I can just see how that one would play out on the political stage> yikes!

Perhaps it would best to create a new cultural norm over time, by appealing to people's logic and their pocketbook. The notion of "It takes a village to raise a child" becomes one of personal responsibility - you made the decision to have a family and therefore the burden falls on you to pay for your child's education, food, etc. In another words, don't make it my job to raise your child. Don't create incentives (welfare) for having children, but instead charge the individual if they can't afford to feed and clothe their little decision.

The notion of personal responsibility on a global scale would go a long way to solving many problems...
