The AWT event in PSC was a great success, despite a slow start to the wind and waves.
The surf was pretty weak for the first few days, and the wind was late every day, but Wed-Friday had classic 4.7-5.2 conditions with occasional head-high sets at the point and bowl. Amazing to see the Pros like Levi ripping it.
Matt Pritchard must have a direct line to the wind and wave gods as every call he made on when to run heats was spot on.
Anyone who can sail out through the waves and make an outside gybe can enter an AWT and not be embarrassed. The amateurs are the backbone of these contests. |

Try putting clear box-sealing tape on their fins next time. _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie

back on topic, what was pretty interesting was the rise of the 4-batten wave sail like the Maui Sails Mutant and Naish Boxer ( rig 4 sails on a 370 mast!). They seem to work pretty well in DTL conditions. The guys were free-sailing and ripping up the head-high+ bombora like I have never seen. The speed of the transitions they were making on the wave face would embarrass a gifted short-board surfer. |
