I picked up a used Neil Pryde X3 180-220cm boom and the outhaul is rigged with blue bungee cord. Is this the correct cordage for this outhaul?

You can use it, but it will feel like you have an elastic outhaul.
Prolly better to use it for your hamster's leash.
Something closer to your downhaul is better, but slightly smaller diameter. |

I wanted to be sure because once I remove it, it would be very difficult to reinstall. So much so that I question why anyone would go to the trouble of installing a bungee in the first place if it wasn't meant to be there?
When the sail is outhauled there is very little, if any, stretch left in the bungee so it's not as if the sail is flailing about. I thought it might be that way to help with gusts? I have contacted Neil Pryde but haven't gotten a response. All help appreciated.

Did you ask the party that you bought it from why a bungee was used in the first place? Seems to me like a goofy way to tie-off your clew. Bungee cords aren't really designed to work in a wet environment.
Is there a workable cleat in place where you can cleat-off normal line? If there is, I would swap out the bungee with the proper size line. |

The seller was no help. Yes there is a cleat. I'm sure you guys are right, I'm going to change it to regular line. Thanks for the help. |
