Voice of reason is usually a GOOD thing.
And when the voice saying not to use backstrap before planing says he DOES use it coming off jumps and big bottom turns, we wonder. |

You must be joking. Do you not see a difference between BEING in the straps already (which means you either stay in them or come out of them in gusty high wind) vs gettting INTO the straps? Surely you see a difference. I COULD get out of them, stablize, then get back on a plane. But if my feet are ALREADY in them, and I can coax the board back on a plane, this is the easier/Quicker way. And quite frankly it only works in Overpowered conditions.
If you don't see the difference between what you can do vs which is the best way which builds on prior learned techniques, quite frankly I have nothing left to say to you since it would be a waste... |

Unless, of course, one's prior learned technique arsenal includes the BFF option. Then it works very well, quite naturally, and very efficiently even in deep, sucking, brief holes and when slogging hundreds of yards across on/off shoreline wind shadows. FF on the centerline up towards the mast step for lateral and longitudinal trim in 5 mph breezes, BF in its strap for instant planing and/or catapult prevention in the square-edged 30 mph gusts, maybe hooked in if the distance is significant.
The more tools we have to skin cats with, the better we can skin them as well as the occasional civet, coyote, or Wookie that comes along. |

And when I waterstart in BOTH straps, I"m already IN them, aren't I? |
