Looping is always better with buddies.

After teaching a gang of Loop lessons last year, with great success, it has become apparent that looping is always better with a group. In one-on-one lessons there is just too much pressure.

I am finally going to be back in the Bay for a few weeks and have decided it is time to get a group together for some Looping instruction. Due to some injuries I have not had the pleasure of teaching a single person to loop this season and it is killing my yearly average. Afterward the clinic, since we will all be connected, participants will exchange numbers so we will be able to find looping buddies for after work sessions after the initial clinic July 8th.

The Bay Area Loop Group Clinic will be Sunday July 8th most likely at Crissy or Candlestick though we will adjust per forecast. Cost is $75 including lunch. Email me to sign up: wyattmiller525@gmail.com

We will focus mainly on loops and especially the low-commitment looping drills such as: No harness, no footstraps, non-planing self catapults. We will also go over a few other freestyle moves like shuv-its, vulcans and duck jibes / carve 360's while we wait for the wind to pick up.

Its time to pull the trigger this summer, and looping really is the only trick you can learn in one day. Why not learn from other's mistakes as well as your own to shorten the learning curve.

Check back in a sec for the 15 tips to Loop.

I'm in! Mail sent. Psyched!

What about doing this at Rio, weather permitting? It will be ebbing most of the afternoon, water is warmer, as opposed to Crissy, flooding in the pm, frikkin' freezing! Just a thought.

We are definitely on, just trying to wait till we get in forecast range before calling the site.

I will email the crew already signed up and see how many could pull a Delta day if the wind favored it.

I see that crissy is hight tide at 4:30 but it looks like slack starts at around 2:30 which would not be that bad. Crissy is the best because it is so easy to hit the beach to talk and launch again. If it is looking hot and light then candlestick would be good as it is mellow for hanging in the water and talking.

We will pull the trigger on a location on friday night.

Cheers,
Wyatt

Wow there is so much interest that I think i am going to have to take more than 9. I figure the more loop energy we get out there the better. Plus there are always a few who don't get the hall pass last minute and can't show or get scared off by forecasts.

So it looks like it is going to be a rager of a crew, we better bring some fear beers for the 2nd sesh.

Awesome day on the water yesterday. Thanks to Wyatt for all the pointers. Whether any of the 10 or so of us actually threw one or not it is safe to say everyone picked up some useful info, and were that much more stoked to hit the water (in some cases literally).
Mahalos!

D'oh forgot to throw this up on here. Busy weekend. But lots of fun. The clinic went off, could have used some better ramps but I definitely saw some fear levels plummet and some courageous attempts. People were definitely going for it.

15 TIPS FOR THE FORWARD LOOP
Getting Started
1. Get a group of friends all at around the same level, Have every one throw in $100 bucks.
a. The first person who waterstarts out of a loop, with their feet in the straps, wins the pot.
(Another member of the loop group must witness the loop into waterstart)

2. Purchase a: helmet, impact vest, earplugs, lucky rabbits foot, four-leaf clover, H20 Audio Mp3 Case….. anything to make you feel more confident. (90% guts 10% skill)

3. Talk to someone who can loop.
(see Wyatt Miller Windsurfing Clinic plug below)
On the Water

4. Practice flinging yourself over the handle bars, NO FOOTSTRAPS, NO HARNESS, WITH BOARD GOING 0 MPH DEAD IN THE WATER!!)

5. Do above 20 more times.

6. Practice jumping upwind, baring off as much as possible in the air, landing downwind. (Extend your front arm in the air and point your toes.)

7. Convince yourself that it is better to do a forward loop off of a small piece of chop, off the wind.
Realize, initiating a forward loop from a jump into the wind will not work. (Unless you bare off significantly while in the air). Understand, that you do not have to get mast high in the air!, You do not even have to clear the nose of the board.

8. Put on your new waterproof ipod case and headphones, listen to charged music. (90% guts, 10% skill)

9. Wedge your feet in the straps.

10. Sail across the wind with your back hand soooooo far back on the boom. Soooooooooo far back that it feels as if you can not sheet in normally!!!

11. Jump FIRST,
Bare off the wind Second, (By extending front hand as high and as far downwind as possible and pointing toes like ballerina.)
Loop Third (By sheeting in, looking back, and trying to bite your knuckles on your back hand.)

12. Close your eyes, hold on, keep trying to bite your knuckles.

13. Hope one of the other people in your group are watching you.

14. Don’t just do it once a day, go for it 20 times on your first day. Otherwise the fear creeps back. (Also maybe no one saw it = no money/bragging rights!!)

is this coming to the delta? Any other old guys thinking this would be a great way to kill the afternoon and get your kids talking about you at school?
