I have tried to give up, but found myself once again arguing with a grown child
At west Dennis who didn't think the rules applied to him.
I find the lack of responsibility and courtesy very disturbing.
All I see is more bans coming our way.
I fInally could take no more and decided to help out some newer liters
And chased them around in the boat while they kited far from shore and the kaos. I felt much better just being off that beach and away from the sick vibe. |

| I anticipated the kitemare 3 years ago and became a voting member of the Westport Town Beach Committee, so we'll have a voice and a vote on access issues. More recently I ran for Town Landing Commissioner, so that we can open up new water access points. Neither position takes much time. I encourage any of you to get on your town committees. And I even get a badge as landing commissioner!!! Wooo Hooo !!! |

Kiters cancelled windsurfing.....
Until they started getting banned and then they some how wanted to be connected to windsurfing?
Fight your own battle you sissies! You cancelled windsurfing!

Stated perfectly. These juicehead trapeze kookfairys are finally wearing out their welcome with the general public. I say ban kiting everywhere and be done with it. Hey let's all call our local government and complain.
Hilarious how kiters argue like alcoholic homeless...STFU already.
I could care less about your beach access.
The harder it is to find a launch the less idiots show up.
Please back to your own boring self centered forum. no one will follow you there either. |

While taking a break during my windsurfing Sesh at Kalmus today I Watched a kiter almost cause a kitemare. Because he had set up his kite on a crowded part of the beach he had limited space to launch. So he decides to launch the kite dead down wind (hot launch) . I was watching from a distance and ran over to help but it was to late, kite went up hot and the kiter got yanked about 40 feet down wind in a second. His two tracks in the sand from his feet were six inches deep for the entire forty foot drag. I was amazed he did not shred his feet. I am just learning to kite myself and watching this I could not believe how wrong this situation was, and I know this guy has been kiting for a couple of years now. Kiting is great sport but it needs to be done away from people and with proper procedure at all times, if you take short cuts you or someone else can pay a heavy price.

kiteboarding & windsurfing are close enough that the general public & town admins bunch us together. Windsurfers I will agree that there are too many kiters who need the rules spelled out to them daily. I only hope the regulations, signs, flyers, beach contacts & dialog many of us maintain with the towns will reach most kiters, will help to reopen 1st Enc & keep other launches open. That said, windsurfers are not completely innocent. At Kalmus, WD & Harding beach, I have watched many windsurfers planing through swim areas and I have actually witnessed a windsurfer run over a swimmer. So I'm not sure you can argue that windsurfing is 100% safe either.
Regarding the plover argument, the CC Times reported that Sandy Neck beach had 41 nests so far this year, with 27 being lost to predators & 14 lost to storms & tides. Kiters are not the problem. The nesting strategy of the plover is. |

While it may seem I take the side of Endangered Species programs for protection, I can agree with many others that the 'plover-thing' is perhaps a bit out of balance.
However, from natures rules, those numbers above are spot on. Another example would be for fish, where 1000's of hatched fry are devoured by other species, even thier own kind, and leaving only a handful of survivors to keep their species alive. Food chain 101.
Man can rarely intervien and expect positive results.
But we can practice protection & conservation ourselves and not let our own presence affect the outcome ...which is the whole point of the Endangered Species Act.
Sandy Neck is also a heated area of debate for 4x4 access. But management is in place to protect birds, and thus 4x4 continues with no problems. They repsect the rules!
Are there really kiters out there? |

And this is a perfect example of some Kiter who should know better but went ahead with a hazardous launch anyways.
One things for sure, I know THIS town certianly knows the difference between Kiting and Windsurfing.
You could see it banned outright, even after lifeguards have gone...the Police and Fire dept will be there to see to that.
Years ago, I saw a guy tangle his Kite into the telephone poles due to neglegence.
I think he was fined when Fire Dept. came to untangle it. Shortly there after kiting was banned during "beach hours".
But obviously the dis-respect continues.... |

Why didn't they, or the police, stop him? |
it was 100% verbal with fist shaking ., and on the water. so the actual "crow bar" mentioned was not on site at the time..
i will admit coming off the water seeing him standing there i was a bit nervous. but by then he either calmed down, or realized how stupid he was being.
I chalk it up to something akin to "road rage"
