My Outlook Subaru was stolen last night. The car was loaded with my windsurfing gear. I suspect the thiefs were attracted by the gear and not the car. The car was parked on my driveway in Santa Cruz.
If anyone sees anything at a swap meet, online or other places I would appreciate a call.
Here is summary of what I had inside:
1 Simmer sail 6.2m red
1 Simmer sail 5.3m red&black
1 NeylPride 5.7m orange
1 board Naish Vector 114L.
1 Powerex 430 RDM mast
1 VHF Radio
2 true ames weed fins
2 various other fins
1 skinny mast base
2 euro universal pins
1 4/3 wetsuit Rip Curl
1 waist harness
booties, orange helmet, hoodie |

What part of Santa Cruz are you in?
I doubt if the idiots even know what they have.
Do you have the license plate no the color and model year
of the car to post here or possibly a picture? |

Got a call from CHP - they found my car.
I went to get it, the suspect was in the police car backseat.
He was stopped because he was driving it without a seat belt. Duh !
He changed the back license plate, but he kept the front one.
No trace of my windsurfing stuff, but I feel he didn't have the time to offload it. I don't think he had any idea was he was doing. I'll let you know if it comes back.
He left me a CD with Nirvana in the player. I haven't listen to that stuff in a while. For a moment I felt sorry for him. |

Generally like to see guys like that hang, but maybe he can lead you to your gear for a little break on his sentence.
Meanwhile if you have homeowners/renters insurance they will cover your loss. Might also check with auto insurance and Craigslist too.
Good Luck. |

Glad you got your car back and hopefully gear to follow.
Quick tip as you are dealing with obviously the low end of the criminal scale.
I highly suggest installing a kill switch on any vehicle, especially with gear.
O'Reilley sells a racing switch for about $5 and the associated red wire is about $3. The racing switch template protects the switch when off. You just reverse and file the bezel and it is protected when on when you drive, very important.
All you do is find which wire out of your ECU is is for the fuel pump relay. Splice and hide the switch somewhere not obvious. Every time you leave the vehicle anywhere just flick it off and you'll be 99% assured that the morons who do this will never have the time to find and re-connect.
I use it whenever I surf / windsurf or park anywhere. Gives you peace of mind, plus cheap and easy to do. |

My kill switch not only prevents starting but honks the air horns when the key is turned to START. I hope some SOB cracks his skull on some serious steel when he tries to start it, staggers out of the car, and bleeds to death. |

None of my insurers will cover more than a pittance for one or two rigs; thorough coverage requires specific inventory and extra premiums. In short, it's not worth the hassle, IMO, on top of other defensive measures. |
