|
|
Hart's Beach at Bodega (the little strip of beach within Doran park, just SW of the boat launch ramp, in turn SW of the Coast Guard station) has had a condition change that makes access more difficult.
A few weeks ago, heavy equipment was brought in, and the rip-rap was reworked. Previously there were a couple of low spots where you could get to within two not-so-bad rock hops from the parking area to the sand. After the rework, the rock pile has greater rise along the entire length of the parking area, and it is what I would rate as a nasty ankle-turning climb prospect.
The reasons for this are understandable. Early this spring, it looked like the road was occasionally awash.
The beach itself looks better than ever, and one might be able to land there, but it would be bugger all to get gear back up to the parking lot.
I am not certain whether it is permitted to launch a windsurfer from the boat ramp, but that looks like the most feasible option for now.
Differing opinions from hardier souls are welcome. I have not seen many people trying to sail at Hart's recently, but thought that it might be worth bringing to notice the change in conditions, in case someone might receive an unpleasant surprise after a long drive. |

At some 0 tides, we used to launch at PO beach, sail to the shallow spot, walk across the shallow spot, and sail Hart's Beach without paying the 4 buck fee.
Lucky today is a high tide PM. |

Doran park day fee is $7/day or $69/year now.
PO (Yacht Club access) is still free. PO should stand for Poison Oak, which abounds on the hillside up from the street (except in a cleared rigging area) and on the hillside adjacent to the beach. I got it on one shoulder, leg, and sail bags before someone warned me. Too late!
Wind (gust 38 MPH on the graph, but that seems lower than ground truth) was unsailably fierce for me yesterday (one guy with much better skills gave up on a 4.0; my smallest is 4.5, my comfort zone ends around 27 MPH). +5 high tide at 16:44 today looks convenient. |

Lucky today is projected to be lighter winds, but it's already blowing, so might get up there again. |
