I am new to the bay area...moved here a few days ago. Trying to understand the 3rd avenue sensor data better. Many days it seems like the beach sensor is ~10 mph, but the channel sensor is just fine at greater than 20 mph.

Any recommendations of whether it is worthwhile to go there to sail under such conditions? Is there a long slog to the channel or something like that, and is it only possible on certain tide conditions?

Thanks...

As far as I know, the sensor is in a wind shadow behind the golf course, and reflects the wind at the lower launch. The upper launch has far cleaner wind, and is more similar to the channel readings.

Disclaimer: I have only sailed 3rd a handful of times, and primarily sail Coyote.

by lower launch, do you mean the sandy cove like area further downwind of where most of the windsurfer's launch?

Windsurfer's launch at the two cindercone ramps, upwind of the sandy beach. That is for the kiter's.
If you insist on windsurfing in "10 inside, 20 outside", check to be sure it's clear NW, the tides is outgoing, and you have time to make it back to shore before dark, even slogging. Floods give you no room for error, and fog days can switch offshore instantly. Floaty uphaul board, big sail brings you home.

Post for the bay area are usually in the Southwest USA forum. The inner sensor is downwind of the golf range nets and can give you an idea about how bad the slog will be to the channel but it is never as light as it says. Always check the tide, rig up a level when its flooding, dead low tide can be too low for windsurfers to make it back to the ramp and you have to crawl through some terrible mud to make it back.
