Although, I don't want to see any more kiters showing up, I will post about Wacko Bay. I have sailed there often and for about 10 years driving down Will's Work Road. You can launch at other locations on the bay, but in the summer their clogged with boaters. Then again, there are too many reckless boaters and beginner kiters to be found there in the summer, on weekends and in general. I started out with a roof rack on a Pontiac Sunbird sub-compact and didn't have a problem with the terrible road conditions. However, I lost the trainee on that vehicle due to high mileage and switched to a Buick Century Wagon. It was better equipment, but a truck driver fell asleep at the wheel one morning on Rt. 25 and rear ended me totaling the wagon. Before that I did see my front bearings seize which could have been due to the hubs being submerged in the potholes on that road. In addition as I remember I had to replace the CV joints on one of these vehicles, I'm not sure which and that could have been due to the hazardous road conditions. However, once I moved to an older '94 Toyota 4-runner, the mechanical troubles which I suspected were due to driving the road often multiplied. Obviously, the SUV had been previously used and abused with 160K miles, but after struggling replacing the lower front ball joints this spring, I really don't recommend windsurfing there as it can be rather expensive with hidden costs.
