Yeah!

Also, since the kiters are getting to use planing-only production equipment, we should lobby for that for us. Then we could have PWA style slalom in the Olympics!

Signed the petition.

"there is no reason why we cannot have both Windsurfing and Kitesurfing as Olympic classes"

I think one of the biggest issues I have with this has more to do with the absence of "One Design" class where everyone uses the same gear. This sets an unprecidence to Olympics for any sailing class to no longer be "One Design".

The Windsurfer "One Design" had to comply with a single manufacturer and class specs to assure fairness to all competitors.

If Kiters are allowed freely to use production equipment, then "limited special issue" products will become available to certain competitors raising issue to the integrety of the Olympics to begin with.

Bad decision by Olympic committee!
Not against Kites in Olympics, just against the equipment issue.

Kiters should have complied with equipment just like Windsurfer class.
Imagine what it would have been like if Windsurfing were allowed the same freedom of equipment use? Say 15-20 years ago?
I'm sure it would have been a whole lot more exciting than it has been with the One Design restrictions. Which in turn would likely have survived getting axed by Oly com.

ISAF has been adamant (perhaps until now) of insisting that all Olympic sailing events exist as strict One Design Classes that purposefully narrow the range of equipment in order to "fix" the development by quadrennial. There is a ton of historical precedent for this approach and ISAF is hardly known for letting the horses run free. Indeed, this subject was discussed in the days surrounding the testing that resulted in the RS:X selection. The single manufacturer approach, like all the windsurfing medal events since 1984, is not typically the measure of one design. Rather, a range of hull, spar and sail manufacturers are allowed to supply gear for any qualifying event and the Olympic games themselves. But the entire kit must be pre-screened and its compliance to measurement and tolerances certified by ISAF, and a heavy fee paid by each manufacturer. For example, Solings (the former 3-man keelboat) were built by Abbott, Petticrows and others and sails made by North, UK_Halsey, Hood and others.

This may be the route taken by kiting and windsurfing in the future. One Design classes using different manufacturers producing to very tight tolerances. Regardless of whether windsurfing or kiting, I think this approach might spread the discipline more readily in today's market instead of past models.

The most watched winter sport is figure skating.
Olympic size pool...Check
Just add fans and freestyle and you just might have a summer sport people will watch. The halfpipe works for snowboarding. Sorry but watching any sail powered race that is non-planing is like watching the grass grow.
It's just the way it is. Sad

So if they go with a one-design concept, and Pryde gets the board and kite equipment contract, can we assume the whole thing was fixed from the start and no other manufacturers ever had a chance?

I'm with Evans on this one. Maybe make giant Dyson fans so spectators don't blow out their eardrums. And why not the worlds biggest wave tank. 2 events-one venue. Man over nature at its finest Laughing
