Hey everyone, just a head's up:
We'll be broadcasting live this evening, Monday, April 23rd, around 8PM eastern! We're having a free evening clinic at the shop with the Makani Fins guys and their team riders Wyatt Miller and Tyson Poor. The subject matter is Wave Sailing, so grab yourself a snack, sit back and relax, and pretend you're in Hatteras living the good life

Thanks for putting that on, I wish I'd seen it 10 years ago! I've been surviving getting worked all wrong. I do grab the mast tip, but not like they describe and only if I can't get to the booms Now I know better.
On the negative side, no thanks to Makani for hijacking the last 15 minutes! There was so much more to cover on the wavesailing front, and they just jumped in and bla bla about how important fins were, without really providing any useful info at all. |

?
i believe it was billed as,
''Makani Fins Wave Sailing Clinic with team riders Wyatt Miller and Tyson Poor''
so good for them for getting involved with it.
anyway, i thought it was pretty good, and interesting that they made the point of getting out and practicing in lightwind on big boards and small sails. _________________ i like longboards. |

I knew someone would probably point that out. And of course as a sponsor they should get a plug for sure. But 10 minutes of a 45 minute presentation goes a bit far don't ya think?
Seriously Andy, thanks for putting this on, and thanks to Makani for sponsoring it.
It really deserves a part 2 at some point though. So far we've only been down in the impact zone getting worked. I'd like to get to the outside, find a nice swell, ride it in, and get a few turns. |

Ooops! It sounds like you actually only saw Part 2 of the clinic. If you click through to the Wind-NC UStream page, you'll find Part 1, as well as some of last week's Speed Clinics, too. So, altogether, the Wave Clinic has about an hour and a half worth of (Very Beginner Wave Sailing Oriented) footage. Better get some popcorn ready!
Rich1, your Part 2- making turns and raging down the line- is best learned in person at a Baja Clinic with Wyatt and Tyson!! Sign yourself up- you won't be disappointed with the professional and personal attention these guys give! It's really one of the best ways to improve.
Makani actually deserves huge props- they've poured tons of energy into stoking out windsurfers for the last few springs here in Hatteras by flying in their team riders, helping to organize and promote these free clinics, helping out with windfest, organizing On-Water festivities, and much much more. Heck, they deserve a standing ovation!!
While we're on the subject, we're hosting a FIN CLINIC this evening, 8PM eastern- Tune In and enjoy! _________________ formerly known as hodad.andy

Just watched part 1, thanks for pointing that out.
It was a great presentation, and I can see how doing a clinic with these guys would definitely improve my wave sailing. Unfortunately I only get a couple of weeks per year to travel for windsurfing and it's always been Maui. It's an easy sell with my lovely wife, and so Baja just isn't in the cards for the foreseeable future.
I learned a lot from their presentation that I'm dying to put into practice, and thanks go out to you and Makani for putting this on, but I still stand by what I said in the first place. The way the "plugging" went in part 1 was as it should be, mention and thank all the sponsors and then get on with the event. Even the little plug in the middle when they brought out all the Makani wave fins was fun and appropriate. I just thought it was a bit much for the guy from Makani to monopolize the last 10 minutes of part 2 without really contributing anything to the conversation.
BTW, I've never been to Hatteras (other than driving through it on a road trip) and I would love to come down and take a crack at the waves there. I will definitely drop by Wind-NC if I do.
Cheers
Chris |
