Shipping a board from left to right coast

What is a good, reliable service to ship one board from CA to OH. There is no rush but, I want the board to arrive safely. Any suggestions?

I am certain that this has been discussed ad nauseum but I can't seem to work the search function efficiently.

When I attempted my numerous searches, all I got is every single post about each and every topic. Could someone help a windsurf-brother out?

I like FedEx, way cheaper than USPS. It should run you $80-120 depending on options.

I recall someone on here suggesting Forward Air from which I got a quote last year. $113 San Francisco to OH for a formula board.

Go to a Pack and Ship get two baby crib mattress boxes ( they will know what they are) put the boxes together, wrap the board in bubble-wrap and ship FEDEX. Easy!!

I'm assuming the board is shorter then 8'.

If you do go with Fed-X, I would recommend that you set up an account for yourself. It will allow you to receive a much more favorable rate.

I use FEDEX and like said I have an account. They do have size restrictions and "about" a 115L is all the length they accept, unless you have some negotiated account . FEDEX is pretty careful .

DHL may be a option.

You can ship via Greyhound so long as they accept nearby on both ends.

The other option is truck freight, this would be the least desirable from a safety standpoint, but it has worked for me.

Being boxed similar to original packing is the first step.

Amtrack express is cheap, but you do have to drop off and pick up usually at a major city ( hub). I shipped two boards and 4 other sail boxes, from Boston to Portland ( Oregon) for $135. Then shipped them back, after I was done sailing in the Gorge, for $98. I've done this twice, the price seems to vary, depending on the person your dealing with. I've found them all to be nice and helpful. I'll bet it will be cheaper than Fedex.

just shipped a board VA to CA on forward air, no prob's- 3 days by ground. No hassles ie: no size restrictions. cost $114ish

the Forwardair website, I looked at : name is deceiving, but who cares they are a GROUND freight co.

make sure it has insurance for the value, and is packed properly
