With the big melt off happening now at a snow slope near you, does anyone have an idea when iW will return to offering "human forecasts" here in the NE? |

seems to me that the computers have been better lately
Also harder to be mad at them if they are wrong
Like so many other tasks humans are replace with machines unless they add significant value to the process.
My opionion is that most experianced watermen could make a better guess at the local conditions with all of the weather data available today than any metorologist (but that is just my opinion) |

I agree, but you have to know which model to look at. In our area, the default model is the Weatherflow proprietary model, WRAMS, which isn't very good. You have to know, and know how, to look at the NAM and GFS model outputs.

| I pay, they are worth it for our area in my opinion. Also noaa.gov says it will be over 20 mph, it usually is. |

I find the WRAMS model to be very useful in my area, as long as I ignore its long-standing late afternoon mathematical instability and add 10 mph to the whole curve. I still look at every forecast I can find. Even though most of them are based on the same data and often the same model, each source adds a bit of useful information on direction, timing, gustiness, plunging air temps, etc. Some days at some locations are just too damned gusty to make it worth the effort, or at least force a change of venues. "The Gorge" has over 70 launch sites providing access to dozens of very different local wind patterns, and nuances count. |

| Nice, can't wait for Friday. For the jersey folks, looks like we're in for a rare E treat on Saturday, followed by stronger NE winds on Sunday. And Barnegat Bay temperatures are already cresting 50. [/quote] |
