Conversely, the stretch between Brownies and Molokai is deep purple/black water, and having sailed to within sight of Haleakela a couple times, I'd guess it's at least 500' deep, but I don't know.

On a windy day, the water is often cloudy, and you can't tell where the floor is by looking.
Having broken one fin and one ankle (stepped on a rock and twisted it), I tend to be conservative and avoid the shallows.
But that's New England. We have rocks here.

Kailua, a once popular windsurfing spot, had 6' of water on the inside reef, with coral heads at 10" below the surface, regularling tearing fins off boards. Low tides.

How about I'm on a quad with longest fins at 6" or 15cm in length ?

You'll skim cleanly over every coral head, smile and preen, while all the single fin riders blaze right by. But you don't care, you're a wave sailor, waiting for your next drive to Backyards.
