Oh, you mean like one of those crystal clear, articulate, educated, complete sentences from Palin?

"It's why touchy feely Leftie idiots often treat their cancer according to what their DEAD Uncle Joe did, while pragmatic Righties dig into the tabulated research and make informed, actually USEFUL, decisions.
It's why using -- in the worst sense of the word -- some frigging starving or crippled ISOLATED child to suck votes and cash from the public should be criminal when the politician knows damned well little Johnny is an isolated -- often proved later to be bogus -- case."
When you see stuff like this, you have wonder who would believe it. There's really nothing serious offered. |

Mike: 'For what does a person benefit if he gains the whole world and lacks his soul?' (Your American Bible in Plain English.)
But what did people know in those primitive and ill educated times, so long ago??
Or were they perhaps a little more profound than you are able to understand? |

Thank you! That's the point I was trying to find words for, and to tie it back into bailouts: I think the auto bailouts are a bit about trying to save a market that is the soul of American industry. We invented car culture and the means to make freedom to travel available to the everyman. Without cars there'd be no windsurfing (or kiting) culture: we ALL have to drive our gear to the lake/river/ocean.
As a very moderate Republican I kinda have a problem with artificially propping up industries that make bad decisions and can't cut it. Capitalism does have this whole deal about letting the market decide, right?
I think the bank bailouts (that was Bushies doing, remember?) is completely about trying to gain the world and screw this whole business about a soul.
I'm still not sure how our auto industries, in fact, any of our industries can compete effectively with the rest of the world when we demand that business carry the entire burden of employee healthcare and pensions. It seems like we either continue with the status quo and accept the huge bailout from time to time, or remove some of these burdens to the public sector and make some changes. I'm interested to see how Sweden copes with the loss of Saab's automobile division. They seem to have about the right mix public/private prosperity.[/quote] _________________ Kansas City |

Sweden spends 1.2% GDP on defense We spend 4.6%.
Sweden spends 9.2 % GDP on healthcare. We spend 14.6%
IMO, it is not about who pays for these things (the employer or the government)...It is about the total costs to our economy. We simply have to get health care and defense spending under control. |

Since Sweden is listed as the best and most prosperous country, and I dont like socialism much, I asked the Swedish kiter if he likes socialism.
It works for him but he is mad about high taxes. The Canadian poster is Ok with socialized medicine along with other Canadians here, but they don't like high taxes.
Belizians are also pissed at their taxes with an average rate of 3 percent and a capital gains rate of ZERO.
We have English style socialized medicine whose quality reflects the tax rate.
Our national gov works almost as well as our my high school student council does, but we don't pay them much so that seems fair.
If we succeed in shrinking the US gov and tax base down to this relative size we are not going to like living in America very much. |

Sweden defends Sweden; we defend the free world.
Who want to attack Sweden?
Who wants to attack the U.S.?
Sweden is socialist; we are a Republic. Anyone who prefers socialism should move to a socialist nation (try Cuba), rather than trying to convert a free country to socialism.
Out health care is far better, according to the sites cited here a day or two ago. |

Wikipedia? Really?
Gates (his wife was my brother's babysitter in her youth).
Romney (he inherited nothing). [more accurate, he gave his entire inheritance to a university scholarship fund]
Oprah.
The illegal alien who became a world-famous neurosurgeon.
Home Depot magnate Bernie Marcus.
The vast majority of millionaires (they had normal incomes but lived on much less than they earned.)
Sports/rock/movie stars.
Yes, upward mobility is decreasing, but due more to the economy and government regulations on small businesses than to deliberate mobility barriers. Bernie Marcus says almost daily that what he achieved will never be possible again due to today's incredible bureaucracy ... and neither Marcus nor Gates nor Jobs nor George Clooney nor any other rich person has ever taken a dollar from me by force. On the contrary, many of them have enriched my life.

Time for Fun with Facts:
1. Sweden is a Republic.
2. The UK, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia, etc. (i.e. the free world) have armies, some have nukes, and defend themselves.
3. US Health care ranks 37th in the world, life expectancy 42nd.
4. Mordor is not a Republic. _________________ florian - ny22
