Consumer Reports puts the Samsung Galaxy II S in first place in just about every category, the iPhone came in 7th, I think. They didn't like the telephone quality of any of the phones. _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie

You do have to be a little careful with Consumer Reports, they probably had different criteria than you did. If they find two products very close they'll pick the one that's cheaper, since that's one of their criteria. If you just want the best of something and price be damned, you need to read the whole article carefully.
As for tires, buy Michelin, end of story. _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie

| I've had a Casio Commando for about nine months. This phone is military spec for immersion[!!!!], vibration, impact, 3G, good camera, 15 min video capacity, ideal for active users. Immersion capability has been tested several times as I take it SUP and listen to Pandora as I paddle.... available as an upgrade through Verizon. Aloha, Bull |

Anyway, has anybody gotten a new phone lately and care to comment?

As in real estate, it's all (OK, largely) about location, location, and location. Sitting there looking at my AT&T tower in the Gorge, downloading a complicated weather forecast site on my AT&T smart phone consistently took me 10-15 minutes. A bud 30 feet away consistently downloaded the same site in 10 seconds on Verizon. I switched the next day.*
Back to your opening comment, I use smart phones for three purposes: wind, wind, and research. The first two are obvious (I get most forecasts and current data within 2-3 seconds); the third was an afterthought. When shopping for a car, a bottle of car wax, or an old board at a swap meet, I have test reports at my fingertip. When the tire guy asked me if I wanted my tires siped while they were rotating them, it took me one minute and a few clicks to provide an informed answer. ("No.")
I can also make phone calls on it, but home phones do a far better job.
* I laughed out loud when AT&T Customer Service, promising to fix the problem, demanded a street address. When she honest-to-God could not comprehend that there is no address, that I was in the middle of the desert far from any buildings or "major intersections", I asked where she lived. "New York City".
"Have you ever been outside the city?"
"No."
I could almost hear her thinking, "Why would I want to do that?" |
