Is it just me or has this thread become an INTERVENTION? Usually Isobars hijacks every thread to make it about him, and he's done it again even though the thread is already about HIM!

I have not seen this video, and even had I done so, would never make fun of a fellow windsurfers style of sailing. Video shooters, like newspaper reporters, are not averse to 'pushing' their own interpretation of what is going on! (Think early days when 'girlie television reporters shot it all as 'little boys playing silly games' sort of thing, and always falling off.)

But there is more on this thread alone than just the video issue. For example, Mike states. 'Anyone who HATES me has such a vastly different VALUE system...' followed in a later reply by, 'I deeply apologise for having MORALS.'

The clear meaning can only be that Mike has a moral value system, and the rest of (90% of the forum by most estimates) do not!

Firstly, Mike, your original statement is, if I read things correctly, wrong. The majority on this forum do not HATE you, they RESENT you! The above two statements would be adequate reason to explain why, though there are endless other examples in many other threads.

You tend to give the impression of being a superior being, who will not be contradicted, in any way at all. (Whether you actually ARE right or wrong is secondary to this perception. THAT is why, in my assessment at least, why you are so resented, by so many.

I am NOT trying to give offence, and I really don't want to see that video. I accept you as a fellow enthusiast who loves windsurfing. THAT, is sufficient, despite the fact that I too resent your internet manner. (RESENTMENT, not HATRED!)

That is one flagrantly dumb, obviously and egregiously false, biased and misleading post. Notice that before I even posted a word, several people like you just had to turn it from a humorous (?) sailing video into yet another lying Isobash by posting baseless personal attacks. Let’s replay the real hijacking via the archives dash cam:

swchandler, being his usual self, wrote:
I can understand how a bent isobars might be considered a loose cannon just waiting to go off. Predictably, it didn't take isobars too long to throw the rag over things [I hadn’t even seen the thread yet!], given a fear of being revealed for what he is. Also, isobars has a penchant for censorship [only moderators can censor], so there's no real surprise there.

westender then tried to douse the flames when he accurately wrote:
If you're going to put yourself out there, better be ready for the ball busting.
,
and Nick and rlemmens tried three times to tone it down further,
but wooot just had to escalate the attack so he wrote:
Isobars has ripped me, among many others, for no apparent reason on these forums

I then gave wooot a chance to abandon his hijacking when I wrote:
Marty, that's a proven lie, yet you've stated it 2 or 3 times now to varying degrees without being able to back it up. Do you really want to look like the gang bangers here?

wooot’s henchman Chandler could have checked the archives for the facts, but noooooo, he falsely wrote:
As I vaguely recollect, wooot was "ripped" by isobars in the past".

Notice that these two are the only ones trying their damnedest to hijack the sailing video into another scheistfest. Finally, three pages and 28 posts into the thread, I responded factually, logically, rationally, and point by point to Marty’s barrage. Brian Kiggins and a couple of others kept trying, with only limited success, to resist my and others’ attempts to return the discussion to windsurfing.

On what planet did *I* hijack the thread ABOUT ME?

And what does your ludicrous accusation say about you?

As someone newer to this forum, but not new to internet discussion boards, I was trying to point out a painfully obvious point.

Sometimes, the obvious falls on deaf ears (or eyes in the case you read this), and it's a lost cause. Sometimes not.

I mostly lurk, and occasionally will throw the [sarcasm]"lighten up Francis"[/sarcasm] post out there.

Iso, I have no beef with you or anyone else, however, some of the observations made are spot on... this coming from someone who's been here for just a few weeks. Take it with a grain of salt, choose to stay the course, or maybe step back and attempt to change perception. You choose.

I'll leave you with this: TMTOWTD - "There is more than one way to do it." Accepting that will lead to much more happiness.

Sail well, sail long and enjoy the ride.

Believe me, Brian, I ignored the attacks by the hundreds for years in the hope they would fade, and still ignore most of them. It doesn't work, so I reserve the right to respond when and as I wish. At least your butthurt form was funny (and appropriate).

And now it's my fault for turning this thread into what it is. How convenient, but I really don't think anybody buys that for a second. isobars, be honest and look within yourself to see the problem for what it is. You know, thombiz was only highlighting what is a frequent occurrence here. No reason to get ugly with him.

I also proved how easy it is to bait, hook, and play Isobars for my own amusement. He's addicted to his own sense of superiority and it's fun to watch him scramble to prove it. Ta-Dah! Baited and Played!

Mr. Fick is as pure as the driven snow. He always corrects his mistakes when pointed out.*** Just like this tidbit from rec dot windsurfing (name changed to protect the subject of Fick's claim):

FYI, folks, Hubert, an ACLU lawyer, was fined for perjury and threatened
with disbarment in July, 2002. IMO this impugns his credibility across the
board.
Didn't like my ficticious assault on your credibility, didja, Hubert? Well,
credibility was and is my stock in trade, too, to the point it saved the
fundamental Star Wars laser research program from cancellation, and I resent
previously credible people falsely impugning it. SNIP

Thus, with a loud PLONK, you join the others who keep accusing me without
substantiation of lying (including euphemisms). Windsurfing and talking
about windsurfing are too important to me to let a bunch of vitriolic
gamesmen ruin it for me. I have no respect for or interest in people who
stoop to word games and ad hominem because they can't or won't debate like
adults. Just as people are welcome to killfile me because I enjoy rational
debate or because they don't agree with me that we should defend our nation
and some parts of the world against credible vows to decimate them, I choose
to killfile the flame-mongers I feel spoil the spirit of this newsgroup.
Anyone who wants to QUESTION my statements will be treated with respect.
Those who continue to call me a liar (euphemisms included) without
supporting it will get the level of respect they deserve, to a degree
depending on whether I stepped in dog crap vs foot straps that day. Those
who employ or tolerate the latter behavior promote its presence here.
Mike

I'll do you one better, Mike. In fact, I am a rogue financial trader who
stole $200 million dollars and fled to Europe. You can read all about me
in SNIP
Unfortunately the author neglected to mention my spectacular double
forward loop in the final heat of the 1999 Fuerteventura freestyle
worlds. But what can you expect, windsurfing just doesn't get any media
attention these days.
(Just in case anyone is confused, all of the above is false, I am
actually a software engineer in Silicon Valley, and I wish I could land
a single forward.)
SNIP
Good Winds,
Hubert

***Of course, Mike made no public apology for accusing "Hubert" of a crime and professional misconduct. Perhaps he would care to do so, now?

5. who will not be contradicted

1. In the worlds I've lived, worked, and played in outside these forums -- from our Constitution to our libel laws to our daily lives -- baseless personal attacks are immoral and/or illegal. I absolutely cannot comprehend how anyone with even a hint of morality can silently accept, let alone promote, or ESPECIALLY participate in WSing forums’ rampant baseless personal attacks just because I express relevant facts and opinions they don’t like. (We actually have laws over here, let alone mores, protecting one's right to express those.)

2. Marty, not I, chose the "hate" word. Besides, anyone who resents or hates being accurately labeled a liberal, a conservative, immoral, amoral, a Marxist, a socialist, a bible-thumper, a radical on either end of the spectrum, axe murderer, etc. should stop behaving as one. It’s our behavior, not the label, that defines us; a label, if accurate, is just valid shorthand.

3. If you’re trying to help rather than denigrate, as I believe you are in this post, you’ll have to provide some of those examples. I’ve already explained that “Do your own homework” for example, means “I have neither the time or will to type the books or 40 pages of references out for you. Here’s the source; look it up just as I had to and stop demanding that I do it for you.”

3. To reiterate, in case you think I misspoke: Anyone who resents -- or especially who tries to suppress or undermine via baseless personal attacks -- anyone's honest, relevant, supportable opinions and the facts behind them is not someone whose opinion matters to me.

4. How in hell can I control others' impressions, especially when so many of them paint some of those who disagree with them as a lying racist birther denier heartless greedy evil poor-hating cartoon character?

5. So it's OK for others to express their opinions or facts, but I can't? Why does no one "resent" the people who agree with me (on, for example, AGW alarmism, cammed sails, slotted fins, jibe techniques, allowing for multiple techniques such as BFF AND FFF, politics, roller harness bars, board size and style, ad nauseum)? Anyone is welcome to confront my opinions or facts head-on any time they like; it’s the continual irrelevant broadside against the messenger that’s so despicable and, yes, immoral. I worked for three colonels who felt the same way most of this group does: “STFU if you disagree with me.” All three were fired from the Air Force and one was stripped of his pension, due in part to the fallout of that paradigm. And there are more than one way to windsurf.
