I can just hear what the rabid rabble right would say if Obama instituted flat taxes and eliminated accountants.

The logical deduction here is that the more taxes you pay, the higher the quality of life.
No wonder that the 48% of the US citizens that pay no income tax are not too happy.
Just having some fun here, don't take me too seriously. |

Since lobbyists and tax accountants don't contribute to the productive capacity of this country, I won't be shedding any tears for them. |

Ok, I wont. No , certainly that is not the case. My point is that there is a lot of socialism in our lives already, it aint that bad. Europe is a financial mess, but its a great place...maybe we need to live with our parents , and drink lots of wine. |

The main work of lobbyists-bribery- will go on.The main work of accountants is not searching special tax exemptions. It is tracking the money spent in businesses. Your tax form will be almost as hard to prepare if you are a business. You can't just look in the cash register at the end of the year and send in 15 percent of the money that is left.
In a business return your expenses are deductions. In my biz that is thousands of items that are deductible even in a flat tax system. |

You know, Dan is spot on. If changes to income tax rules and regulations are to be addressed and streamlined, it must still be predicated on a progressive tax system. I'm absolutely firm in a progressive tax structure, and I'm convinced that our representatives in Congress will ultimately recognize that overall. Wealthier folks can practically afford to pay more percentage wise. Fairness is based on the pragmatic costs and requirements to live. Folks making hundreds of times more than that are hardly being picked on unfairly when asked to pay a little bit more. |

Like I said earlier, super wealthy folks are just "donating" their fortunes back to themselves, so pay no taxes. The super hard working $200k-400k folks don't have that much money, so they just pay and set up family trusts.
Key, it is just that simple. The business man totals his "net income" at the end of the year, and sends 15% off to Washington. It should be that easy. No depreciation, no fancy lunches, no junkets to Hawaii. Just pure business expenses. I suppose there would be some arguement about Hawaii. |
