There is only mention of the trendiness and how...accomodating the suit is. No mention of its effectiveness as an actual drysuit ( which is odd for one that costs $800). |
If you're talking about the Kokotat, it's not nylon but Gorertex (BIG performance difference), it's closer to $900 or more except during REI's 20% off sale, the pee zip is a marvel ON LAND in cold weather, and its dry suit performance is in a class by itself. |
Talking about the NPX kitesuit

Why pay $800 for nylon when you can get the real deal, Goretex, for about the same price with the right timing?

It's 34 frigging degrees. Haven't these guys heard of snow sports? Mt. Hood is buried in snow.

Really windy here too, actually this was taken 25 years ago.
We have been in the water this year (2012) here in northern Montana.
4 days last week.
Keeping warm while riding seems not too hard to do. It is how well one will do in an emergency situation that scares me. At least where we are sailing we can ride side onshore and reduce ones exposure potential.

A 4 mm suit in January at Stephenson? I'm sorry, folks, but that's suicidal
IMO. Stuff breaks, and even the manufacturer rates the suit for "cool" conditions, specifically not "cold" and emphatically not "icy".
I would like to see that suit, though. The website is mostly black on black, so it's pretty useless.

Direct quote from the manufacturer's description:
"The 4.0-3.0mm thick loose-fit neoprene shell serves for best heat retention possible in extremely icy conditions. Much less thermal underwear is needed!"
