|
|
Hey everyone,
Word is getting around, and I wanted to be the one to tell the iWindsurf community.
WINDSURFING magazine will be suspending publication for the upcoming year.
There's still quite a few details I'm not sure about, and our team is still quite a bit in shock.
I'm sure there will be a press release next week. We've spent this week telling our advertisers and contributors. (Sorry if we haven't gotten to all of you yet - there's a lot!)
It's been a great run. We are part of an amazing community, that I'm sure will continue, even without the magazine. Windsurfing will always be the most incredible sport in my world, and, I'm sure, yours too.
I'm not sure what the future holds for me yet, but I will continue to be a member of this community, and continue to be on the water with you guys.
I'm off to the mountain for some decompression and get my mind off the thing. Will check back later.
All the best in the wind,
Josh Sampiero _________________ __________________________________________

considering that Boards UK is also changing to twice a year format, this should NOT have been a shock, but it certainly is.
actually thought it was joke, news like this at the Holidays is depressing.
Very Sorry to see this, I would assume its based on economic conditions.
Josh I wish you and your staff the best in the future. _________________ K4 fins

I'll be looking forward to a refund of the balance of my subscription. And no, the Wakeboarding magazine that was sent doesn't count. |

Wow, this IS a big buzz kill. I subscribe(ed) to both mags and had the opinion that Windsurfing Mag was getting it together with its board test live concept, and it's revamped web presence. In the board test live feature I saw guys just like me, guys who's blogs I visit, guys who sail within a couple hours of where I am in Rochester NY. Camaraderie baby. The mag seemed big world relevant and equally grassroots. This Great Lakes sailor really enjoyed what they had to offer. I understand the decision to "suspend" publication though in this internet, tough economic and less windsurfing centric day and age.
Windsport will continue to get my dollar merely for the love of the sport. I like that it is Canadian/USA. I was unimpressed with the latest issue however. Travel article, travel article, PWA rider profile, up and coming grom (I liked this), freestyle (not my bag) , enjoyed KP's article, some good pics, SUP review (a necessary inclusion I guess), I think the ride guides have a place as well, wrapped up with a moderately entertaining article on Tyson Poor. It seemed like you needed to know him personally to truly enjoy the humor. But then I have felt that about Eric Sanford too.
Maybe I'm being a scrooge. I just liked Windsurfing Mag a lot. The one good thing is that a local sailor known as Ontario Buoy won't get his issue a full two weeks ahead of me anymore.
Here's hoping something good comes down the road from the settling dust of Windsurfing Magazine (Windrider Mag).
My two cents,
Doug
