Has anyone considered approaching some of the homeowners along Nahant Beach to see if one of them would be willing to host a webcam?

There could be incentives, of course. Like free internet access (through windsurfer/surfer donations) for the homeowner or something along those lines.

Just curious. I live about an hour away and it sure would be helpful.

I have a good view from my spot, but I'm just renting so my place wouldn't be a permanent solution. There's a professor I work with who has a house near mine who might do it. He builds robot lobsters. I'll ask him.

Update: The professor says he has too many trees in front of his house, but he suggests approaching The Tides Restaurant, which has the best view of all and ought to be amenable to a webcam for the extra business and publicity that it would bring. I don't know anything about the webcam logistics, but the person who does should contact the tides.

The only possible snag I can foresee would be if someone who gets wind of the idea is worried that the webcam might be used to spy on bikini wearers in the summertime.

Cool James. Thanks.

The Tides Restaurant does sound ideal. Though I can see how something like that could become complicated.

*Edit: I don't really know about webcam logistics either. It would great to hear what others might have to say.

That one looks over a marina where there are never waves. We need one that looks over the big East-facing beach where everybody surfs and windsurfs.

After the webcam issue is settled, the next order of business should be nuclear detonation of Route 1, so that a REAL access road can be built...

Can you kill Rt 16, too? These roads are my nemesis. Nahant is an awesome spot, but in the time it takes me to get the 12 miles from my house to Nahant, I can often make it 50 miles to Duxbury or 85 miles to Kalmus.

It sure was going off on Sunday, and, for once, there was no traffic.

Sorry James... The cam does not show "bikini wearers". But by using the zoom / angle selections it gives great info about swell, wind lines etc...

Telescope or binoculars? Shocked

you might show them the website for the Ocean Mist restaurant/bar at Matunuck in Rhode Island, which has a webcam.
