Wow, it really is dead today.
So, in an effort to liven things up a bit, here is an incredibly stupid, or interesting (pick one), question about harness line length.
Q: If one were to go from a seat harness to a waist harness, would harness line length decrease and by approximately how much?
Related Q: Given that on lighter wind boards one's footstraps are set closer to the rail than on higher wind boards, how much of an effect would that have on harness line length?
Thanks for your input.

Ive found that the answer to that question is a derivative of the product of the age and level of experience of the windsurfer giving the advice. |

A: I just replaced my Dakine Fusion seat with an NRG waist and noticed very little difference. I might bump the boom up an inch at the mast for my next session.
Related A: I use a wider boom with bigger sails on my bigger board, so lines feel about the same to me. |

Dennis.c:
thanks for your answers. They are actually particularly of interest as I currently use a Fusion seat and I too use wider booms for bigger sails.
thank you. |

I wouldn't assume that your goal should be to replicate the boom/line/hook geometry from your seat harness sailing to waist harness sailing. I would (and did) change only the harness, and went back and forth for a season until i was well comfortable with both before i began tweaking other things.
fyi for myself i found boom height to be the variable i liked to change (lowering it an inch or so) for waist harness sailing.

| There's plenty written here about harness line length and it hasn't become out dated. Use the search function. |

Michael,
Thank you for the info re boom height. I find it interesting that I've begun lowering my boom height a bit over the past couple of months and have found a more comfortable spot.
Just ordered a waist harness, I'll have to see how it goes.

I've been adjusting boom heights, harness line lengths, mast foot positions, fin positions, and toenail length for > 30 years, right up through last Wednesday. "Wrong" adjustments are certainly possible, but the range between "too much" and "not enough" is pretty broad and pretty personal.
Ditto waist vs seat harness; some people love one or the other, some people hate one or the other, often regardless of sailing style.

Mike,
I find that I am adjusting things all the time also. What I meant about the boom heights is that I had found an acceptable range, but have moved that range a bit lower lately and found it to be better.
I find that ear hair length also has alot to do with how I sail |

Adjustable lines. Rarely is there one perfect setting, especially if you use one boom for multiple rigs. Get a good pair that can be easily adjusted while hooked in.
