Like I always say, how do you know if you had fun if you don't measure it? Wink

So here are the numbers for my 2011 journey in The Gorge that started June 2nd.

Days windsurfed: 67 out 73 (92% of the days).

Places sailed:

Roosevelt: 13
The Wall: 2
Rowena: 15
Hatchery: 22
Viento: 12
Stevenson: 3

Equipment used (weight 160 pounds, rig like a 180):

Sails:

7.4: 3%
6.6: 7%
5.9: 15%
5.2. 16%
4.7: 27%
4.3: 20%
4.0: 7%
3.7: 5%

Boards (in liters):

125L: 9%
105L: 19%
085L: 33%
075L: 36%
067L: 3%

For me, a very good year, didn't really match the forecasts. Wink

Better yet, we've finally shed our coats by midday, the wind quality has finally improved, the current has backed off, and we still have 10-15 weeks of great weather -- I hope -- before Mother Nature drops her pants, squats over our heads, and just dumps a giant load of PacNW winter onto our heads ... to snow-lovers' delight.

Whattaplace!

I like those stats - dunno if I have ever seen a breakdown quite like that. Any idea how many miles by car you traveled to log that time on the water?

I hope no distant travelers gather from Guy's log that they can drive to the Gorge, chase wind casually, and achieve that kind of results even in a good year, let alone a gusty, blustery, flooded year like this one. To his credit, Guy chases wind like a madman from one end of the Gorge to the other (it covers at least 200 miles not even counting the coast), sometimes packs up and drives 70 miles to catch an extra couple of knots, is willing to sail really crappy conditions, and is a living example of the rewards all that can gather. His big smile reflects that attitude and the success it garners; most people would be worn down by his itinerary. I've driven 350 miles round trip for a good afternoon of sailing hundreds of times, but still have some pride -- some say pickiness -- in choosing my sailing conditions (maybe that's why he's such a good sailor; he's earned his skills the hard way: through sheer effort). I'll bet he could have filled some of those dead days by driving farther east and west, but some days are best spent on our butts.

Guy, very impressive to a leisurely fellow like me!

Two other missing stats - how many miles sailed and elapsed actual sailing time?

Heard you use GPS while sailing - what are the numbers?

Sail on dude!

Guy,

Do you have a wife that joined you for part of the trip? Just curious if I know who you are Smile

Do you mean the curly crazy one that's always on the water at the Hatchery and speaks English like a Mexican cow? Wink

ps: I can give her stats too, it would be interesting because she was in the Gorge during a 5 week period that was considered not too good this year.

The next question is - does she read this forum? If so - we may not see you in the Gorge next year. Let us know when you're released from the ER.

Guy, what was the total mileage logged by you on the water? I'm wondering if you logged more miles on the water than travel time - I know you hit it hard (but we know who hits it harder - don't we??)
