Three men go into a bakery and pool their money to buy a dozen cookies. When the 12 cookies come on a plate, the guy from Wall Street grabs 11 of them. He then turns to the Tea Party guy and says, "Hey, that union guy wants your cookie!" |

Thanks mac! I saw that parable the other day myself and thought it would be a great post here. There was a slight difference though, as the union person was presented as a lady instead of a guy. |

Omitted from the parable are the taxpayers, who paid for the cookies, lined up outside the shop looking longingly at the goods in the window, since they can no longer afford cookies for themselves. |

With wealth concentrated in the top 1% of the income bracket higher than its ever been in my lifetime, hedge fund managers making an average of a billion a year and paying taxes at a 15% rate, mrgybe sounds curiously like the corporate oil guy uring the tea party folks to beat up the union guys (and immigrants) like the tea party he supports. |

They all complain about the high cost of the cookies without realizing the illegal immigrants are making the cookies at wages for which none of them would work. |

All the drooling window shoppers want someone else to make cookies for them, rather than start their own bakery. They are then whipped into a frenzy by a local college proffesor who leads them to believe that they deserve the fruits of someone elses creativity. |

The analogy is an unusual choice for someone close to the construction industry. Several of my fellow windsurfers on the Outer Banks are contractors or sub contractors in the construction business. They have been unemployed for about two years because every job they bid on (and there have been precious few for some time) is underbid by a contractor or sub who uses illegal immigrant labor. How do those illegal immigrants work so cheaply? In large part because they are prepared to work for cash.......pay no taxes, make no social security contributions, have no health insurance. It's a hard and risky existence........but does cause legal residents to lose work they would be very happy to do........and causes a burden on local hospitals, schools etc. who are required to provide services to people who make no contribution toward the cost of those services. One more element in the budget struggles many localities are currently having.
These are complex issues with many dimensions........they require serious attention from serious people. |

The problem is the employers. Those folks did not go to New England for the warm weather. They were attracted by crooked employers who are ripping off your friends for their livelihood.
G. Bush tried to come down on them but the Party moved against him quietly and that effort stopped. It is much smarter for the GOP to make anybody with a suntan in Arizona carry a passport and lay on the sidewalk while they check it.
Did your friends report the boss and make a real blow against the problem of illegals plaguing our country?
side note>It is rare for a US construction worker or sub to not prefer cash.
I have employed hundreds |
